Guys,
New 2008 2.5 limited OUtback owner. Looking for some LIGHT off-road trails (dirt, gravel) - not too far from San Francisco Bay Area. I couldn't find much on 'outback friendly' trails. Tried the search here at the forums and also Googled it a bit. Apologies in advance if I missed some thing obvious. I thumbed through couple of 'off-road' books in the bookstore, but they are more geared towards serious 4x4 types. Any one has a few recommendations, websites, books...? Much appreciated /LinuxLover |

Hmm, no replies ?!
I got this book : Backcountry Adventures Northern California http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/193...=3OTM9F05CGF2L It is mostly geared to towards the 'jeep' crowd. They have trail ratings from 1-8 I think. And from reading a few, Outback can do ratings 1-3 easily. And there are quite a few trails with 1-3 difficulty rating. But they are all in Sierras or close to Shasta. If any body has done any trails from this book, please post your experience (and photos!) thanks |

The backcountry book mentioned has some nice easy drives in the big sur area. I too live in the SF Bay area and likewise would like to meet others for dirt road adventures.
Cheers, Nick PS: KHop I saw you parked on Telegraph this afternoon. I stopped to gawp at your car. |

Hi Guys
If you go north of Santa Rosa, there are two roads that will get you to Clear Lake via dirt road. Fun but not too challenging. Sorry, I forget the name of the roads but you will see them on the map. I think one is Sonoma Mountain Rd. I've done it in conventional cars but you can raise some dust in your subies. This makes for a great day. Wine tasting at either end of the trip (or both). I'm on my second subie and loven it. Michael |

I got my 2000 OBW in February of '09 & am also looking to do some light offroading, just dirt roads really, so I can say I've taken it off road
Don't want to be one of those noobs that get 10 feet off the pavement and get stuck! I'm in Sunnyvale, CA which is right at the south end of the San Francisco bay. Looking for something within an hour or so drive. Lived around here 36 years, you think i'd know this stuff but this is my first AWD vehicle! Thanks!
