I was able to take the subie off road for the first time since I got it (except the beach J ) After mtbing for a couple of hours, on the way home I found a nice dirt fire road. Didn’t want to get too crazy but wanted to push a little to see what it could do. Was testing the FHS (fun hater system), under steer, over steer, braking and acceleration.
Although I’m not really going fast, the video doesn’t really show the speed (50/60mph.) All handling characteristics were totally different than my 2wd truck but it’s pretty easy to get the hang of. The subie preformed really well but when I pushed to under steer to try to break the rear loose the FHS would kick in. I was able to get to where I was able to do a little drifting. Over steer came from me not expecting the wheels to grab when they had plenty of grip. Oh is also handled the mild washboard like a champ. I also figured the lack of ‘speed’ look of the video is due to the vantage point. I couldn’t get back out to the dirt road but I was able to try it out in the hood. First video is from inside mounted to the windshield and other is mounted to the front passenger side bumper (30/35ish mph in both.) offroadsubie - YouTube on windshield windshield - YouTube on bumper onbumper - YouTube |
