Default Titus Canyon & Death Valley

We took a drive from Phoenix to Vegas to Yosemite to Napa of the holidays.

We crossed Death Valley on gravel to break in the new car, Parts of it were washboard **** but the car did great. We met a jeep driver on one 75 mile stretch who described it as the worst road ever but we did fine.

It's interesting how the road can be ok at 35mph for one section and dreadful at 5mph the next. we felt like a needle running over a record the wrong way!

Thought I'd share the pics... the last one's of my other desert crosser...

Nice! I love Death Valley. My girlfriend and I spent a few days there last year and were surprised by how scenic and beautiful it is.

I had a sportscar last time and couldn't go on a lot of roads...which is one reason I got the Outback.

Did you make it out to the race track?

Nice! We did Tahoe over to 395 south to Mono Lake then over Tioga pass to Yosemite in August. I was eyeing the map and looking at the large number of interesting adventures we could do EAST in Nevada.

Crazy I grew up in Norcal did all kinds of hard core back country hiking as a kid with my dad and not once EVER made it into Yosemite proper! HA HA I stood on a Mt top when I was like 12 and recall my Dad pointing north and we could just make out Half dome with a scope. Yosemite is absolutely incredible! We stayed in GRoveland made the trip up 120 every morning took the bikes parked and would spend all day cruising the valley and playing. 4 days of that and the Outback gave me a tank average MPG of 31MPG I had to run the numbers three times I couldn't believe it.

I thought so too, it's just washboarded in places very badly.

The ridges are 1-2" high and 6-8" apart and it's enough to shake you so bad you want to stop! 75miles of it was enough to last me a day or two. Perfect for the bike though

I think it was originally a route from rhyolite into the valley, there's an old deserted mining town half way down too... Too twisty for a large train although maybe a mining one ran down there. The road before the canyon passes some steep hills with v tight bends and cliffs.
