Default grabbers and chains

OK so i know 205/75R15 Grabbers will fit under the first generation outbacks. But has anyone tried running them with chains?

I dont think there is enough clearance around the tires between the inner sidewall and the struts/balljoints. Most newer trucks and SUVs cant even run conventional chains.

Cables are what is recommended for even the first gen outback.

I did see some small link chains the other day at the hardware store.

I would look and see how much room you have between your tires and the front steering suspension components.

opp! I'm not sure why i wrote chains. I was THINKING cables. I know chains wont fit, they dont even fit on stock size tires. I was trying to find out if cables would have enough clearance on the 205/75R15 tires.

thanks

Crank the wheels both ways and look in the wheelwells. Cables are usually 1/8" or so.

I Don't actually have grabbers on my car. I was going to go pick up a set on Monday, if i could use cables with them. I just have some 205/70r15 all-seasons on the car now. I'd like some tires that work a little better in unpacked snow. If i cant use cables on the grabbers, I'd be better off with the all seasons though.

I'm hoping someone here is running the grabber at2 on a first generation, and has tried to use cables.

I didn't actually use them, but I test fitted cables to the front tires after I got my AT2's.

I've used chains with them but that's been after I lifted the car. I only test fitted the cables before the lift. They went on and it looked like they would work.

I guess I can't say for sure though.

Thanks for the info. I would just order the tires and find out for myself, if there was somewhere I could order some springs to lift my car. It would be nice to have a backup plan.

I just used strut spacers to lift mine.

If you want to do that let me know. It's a super easy way to lift these cars, and fairly inexpensive.
