Default Alberta to Ontario via Yellowhead Highway 16

I recently made a trip from High Level, AB to Thunder Bay, ON. This time, I decided to take Highway 16 instead of connecting to the Trans Canada. Major cities and towns along the route: Peace River, Edmonton, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Yorkton, Winnipeg, Dryden.

Vehicle: 2006 Outback 2.5i Limited
Map Distance: 2,784km
Distance Driven: 3,102km
Fuel: 312.21L
Cost: $375.61 ($0.108/km)

Fuel Efficiency (regular):
Avg: 9L/100km (26.0mpg)
Best: 8.18L/100km (28.7mpg)
Worst: 9.21L/100km (25.5mpg)

Cruising speeds generally went from 120km/h down to 100km/h with fill ups every 1/2 to 3/4 tank used. The worst mileage includes some Edmonton city driving.

If you're ever doing this drive solo as I did, I recommend the Yellowhead. I find the 2-lane highway more "engaging" than the divided hwy 1. It offers a bit more scenery in the way of roadside farms, buildings, ponds, hills, and curves. Passing wasn't much of a problem and traffic was light during the weekday. The posted speed limit is 100km/h instead of hwy 1's 110, but 16 is roughly 50km shorter. I prefer it just based on the premise it will keep me more awake and alert. Also, dusk set in just east of Yorkton. Between there and Winnipeg, I only saw one deer threatening to cross the highway.
