I filled the tank today (it stopped automatically at $30.00 for 10.005 gallons of gas), and afterwards drove my parents and I south on Route 7 from Middlebury, VT, and ended up at Branbury Beach for a get-together. Then drove back to Middlebury before going south yet again on Route 7 for about 20 miles, then navigated a few dirt roads, turned left onto Route 30, went past Lake Antonia, ended up at Lake Bomoseen (however it's spelled), then took the interstate for 13 miles to Rutland. After a quick stop at Friendly's, we drove back to Middlebury going north on Route 7. Total MPG for the day was 34.4 MPG.
Then again, I'm a severe light-foot who coasts in neutral when it's safe.

That's really great numbers. But I did notice that if coasting the Fuel Computer is all over the place with mileage (anywhere from 2-5km/100kms - 117- 47MPG). While in fifth coasting the computer is always at .2km/100kms(1176MPG).

Probably no traffic of any kind til' Rutland and even then not much.Visiting there from MD.,I'm always amazed to pull up to an intersection & be the only car there.I would love to live there 1 day.

The accuracy is pretty good; at worst it only goes 1/10th of a gallon off.

I was able to get 32MPG while on cruise (using 91 Octane) on a flat stretch of highway. I averaged that over 200 miles! The cruise was set at 62 with the occasional bump up to 70. |

Scangauge products are typically accurate from what I've seen, being frugal in a MT H4 will get you that type of mileage.
Oh, and I wanted to say that I am jealous that you live in Vermont! What a great state, I'm a big Bernie Sanders fan

The ScanGauge II is usually between .05% and .5% off depending on when the pump clicks off. On the default screen I always have battery voltage, instant MPG, water temperature and gallons per hour showing at once. My favorite add-on to my car and something I will never live without. Can only find it online, but was well worth it. As for the state of Vermont; oh man, it's so beautiful in fall. I got a whole lot of pictures on my website and the latest one I got at the top of the page is really cool-looking. The sun set on the Subie as I parked in some deep water and it makes it look almost golden. And the trees... so stunning. So they're cell phone pics from various times... not the best but they work. http://community-2.webtv.net/Epinionator89/MySubie/

This reminds me of something from the public radio show Car Talk - there was some co-worker who was always bragging about how good his mileage was. They got tired of hearing it and started to mess with him. They began to add gas to his tank, a little at a time, and it threw off his numbers to improbably, then impossibly high MPG. And he swore up and down he was measuring it carefully...

And then, if I remember correctly, they started removing progressivly more gas untill he was getting crappy mileage. And he shut up.
