Hey guys,

So I have decided not to run anymore spacers for a while but decided that a lot of people have the ability to make there own either on a CNC like I did or just with some HDPE and a jigsaw and drill. I will be posting the templates for lift spacers for 95-99 Legacies/Outbacks and Foresters (98-08? IIRC). The files are on my work computer so I am going to dimension them all out and make them easily legible and then I will post them in this thread, probably tomorrow morningish.

So if you have been wanting to build your own lift spacers but don't know where to start or what the dimensions are, stay tuned cause all that will be in here!!! :29:

As for the material, this company sells HDPE by the square foot for a pretty decent piece. Your Source For Plastic Sheet, Slab, Rod and Tube. 866-832-9315. They sell a piece of 12" x 24" x 1" thick HDPE for ~55 bucks plus shipping. If you get creative and lay them out properly you can probably fit them onto a piece 12" x 12" but then your cutting it close. The bigger size will be easier in case you screw up.

This is the company I used as they are local but they do ship all over the U.S. Laird Plastics - Home. The material from them was also fairly cheap and they can get it up to 1.5" thick. Maybe thicker even but that was the thickest I ever looked into. They also can cut it to the size you need so a piece ~14" x ~16" will easily fit all 4 spacers and be cheaper.

HDPE, or high density-polyethylene, is the same material that is used for my spacers but also for the saggy butt shims sold by companies like Paranoid Fab or Subtle Solutions. It is extremely durable and chemical resitant but it cuts like butter with a jigsaw equipped with a fairly rough wood blade.

So nothing from this?

Anyone have a set of stock 05-09 top hats they want to ship to me? I don't mind making manufacturing drawings of the spacers, but I don't want to invest in buying tophats just for that purpose.

Someone mentioned in another thread that the 05-09 cars were different than the 00-04.

I'd be happy to post the spacer info, if someone can get me a front and rear top hat from an 05-09 Legacy or Outback. I want to make my spacers asap.

After reading this thread I am interest in making spacers of my own. I did some poking around on the forum looking to see what the max spacer size is before running into rear alignment issues. If anybody as the answer to this I would much appreciate it. I am thinking about 1.5-2in all round.

I have only the spacer templates for the 95-99 legacy/outbacks. I think the fronts are the same for all years of subarus (90+ anyways) but the rears do change in 00'. As for height, I probably wouldn't go any higher then 1" to 1.25" with a spacer. If it was built like some that you see with the 1/4" steel plates with a tube in between then that style would be ok going 2-3" but if it is the HDPE material I'd stick to 1.25" max. Now let me find those template drawings. Lol...

***I posted the front template drawing in the original post.

I would make mine out of aluminum, most likely 1/4", because we have tons of it at my college's machine shop, with standoffs in between. I will have to take some measurements of the strut tops on my 01.

Subydrift,
Can you post a drawing of the rear spacer? I have taken measurments of my 2001, and the front struts are the same. I would like to compare what I have for the rear with the dimensions you can to see if they are at all similar. I will post up what I have in the next few days(crazy busy week).

Can anyone confirm if these are the same as the 2006-2009 Front and Rear tophats?

I haven't been able to get a hold of a spare front and rear 4th gen top hat to make my own spacers. I still need to make them, but I just haven't had the time.

Thanks!

Don't these spacers need to incorporate an offset of some angle with this kind of suspension? Is it negligible - can camber be adjusted to correct with the strut to knukle cam bolts if the spacer is under a certain size (i.e. 0.5" or so)?

Thanks for posting the 1990's design. I want to put in 0.5" in the rear with my new Pedders HD springs all around. (with GR2's and stock strut tops for my 1998 legacy outback)
