What a raffle!
Although even if I had won it myself, I would have trouble settling the tax bill in April. |

Wow. That is my mom's goal, to win a car. She enters every kind of raffle and such.

How are the taxes to own it going to be? Like a regular car payment?!

That's cool! Pics, please.
Yeah, don't forget about the taxes. The IRS will treat the amount of the car (likely determined by MSRP) as ordinary income, so she'll pay at her marginal tax rate. If she has a state income tax, she'll pay there too. And if there's a state sales tax, that could factor in as well, either as a straight sales tax or more likely a use tax. Don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but this'll be a decent chunk of money.
Meanwhile... pics, please! |

In NJ, she would probably have to pay sales tax (7%) as if the car was bought out of state when she registers it here. I don't think this affects state income tax, just figured into your tax rate for Federal income tax as a gift.
I think all of it based on the MSRP of the car...
