Anybody have any canoe/subaru pics or ideas about the best way to haul a canoe?
Thanks!! |

YMMV with the exact size of the canoe, but my friend's 16-foot American fiberglass canoe rides perfectly on the rails without crossbars. I use a pair of those ratcheting straps, and apply at least a half-turn to each span of strap so they don't hum in the wind. Otherwise it sounds like a giant flying insect is going to carry the car away.

that's how i would do it
personally i would leave the cross bars on in case a gust caused a shift. if somehow the canoe slips to the side and drops in, the straps will loosen and that's not good. |

| You can check this thread, and see how I have mine. 2 tie-downs around the hull, front and rear tie downs off the bow and stern. Works pretty well. |

Thanks for the link - How do you keep the front tie downs from touching the paint? |

Well, I didn't. The tie downs touched the paint only behind the front bug deflector, so I didnt really worry about the paint. I am sure you could put a piece of soft cloth or something to protect it if you wanted. |
