After much debate, I've officially given up on the Outback. It's dead, it'll probably stay that way. But obviously I need a working vehicle, so I bought this bad boy:
A 1999 Durango SLT 4x4 w/ 5.2 litre V8 and auto trans
(And yes, all the posted pics are of it stuck, my tires suck and I have open diffs right now)

This time really sucked, I found quick sand:

| How did you manage to kill the Outback so quickly? |

| Some sort of strange flaw in the timing belt, most likely improper installation by the previous owners. The belt was in perfect condition, but it simply slipped off. The rest of the motor went with it and destroyed itself. |

what are you getting for mileage 12-14 ?
v-8s trucks are cheap these days but, you'll pay for it one way or another.
surprised you couldn't find one cheap with lockers and all the gear. i know if i tried to sell my truck right now, i'd wouldn't even get what i have in mods back out of it. |

Most of my mileage has been city with some four-wheeling thrown in, so it's been pretty crappy. I've only taken 2 averages so far. First time was 12.6 mpg, second time was 10.3 mpg. Since then, I've stopped taking averages...it's too scary! |

should be better than that on the highway i would hope. my 02 chevy 3/4 ton got 15 + on average before i lifted it. even with the lift, 35's and the blower i get 11.
guess what i drive most of the time ;] |

| Well, I just got a surprising 14 mpg average on the fill up last night and it was mostly city-ish driving. I stopped dipping into the 5.2 litre power and suddenly BAM! Fuel economy goes up. |

Appreciate the pic with the camry wagon in the background. I just bought an outback to replace my 305k camry wagon and am glad to see I am not the only person to have used it in such a fashion ;)

amazing what happens when you take off the lead boots huh ?
when i first put my blower on i think i was getting about 6 mpg. at first it was fun racing bmw's and rice racers light to light [and beating a lot of them] but, that gets old pretty fast, not to mention expensive.
keep it tuned up and keep an eye on the tire pressure and it won't be too horrible. not sure about the dodges but the fords recommended ridiculously low tire pressures to meet the rollover guidelines. not only did it help cause the tires to fail explosively, it killed the mileage. i run all my tires in the 35psi range and have never had an issue. |

I loved that Camry. It was actually my first car. I'm personally glad to hear that there are others out there who are proud of their Camrys! It's a little rougher then when I got it originally. |
