On-Car Advertising - Click HERE for Original Thread

So for some time now I've been wanting to research this topic because sometimes around my area, there are some cars (most commonly PT Cruisers and Scion xBs) that have their car covered in an advertisement or maybe just the rear windshield and rear side windows. At first I used to just think that they were company cars, but it didn't seem like that.

So finally yesterday I researched this topic and ended up coming across something that seemed interesting and, I think, worth the cash. No one just really stated exactly where to go to do this kind of thing. So I was curious to know how much they paid and I ended up finding out that depending on how big you let "them" put an advertisement on you car, it pays anywhere between $300 - $800 a month. That's a good amount of cash.

Now it seems that most people probably don't do it cause maybe they think it looks ridiculous and maybe it's their only car and they don't want to shower it with a "rolling billboard", but for people like me that really don't care cause it's just an everyday car (OBW) that I use everyday for work, I really wouldn't mind doing something like that for that amount of money.

Just wanted to know if anyone has done this before?
Is it worth it?
Is there any small print that I should know about?
Where to go to do something like this?

Thanks for looking and discussing,
Andre

Possibly?

Maybe someone knows something about it?

I looked into it a while ago from the perspective of the advertiser. Basically what these companies are looking for are eyeballs. Where and how much you drive is one of the factors they look at. For example I was looking to advertised to businesses, if you commute 2 miles to the local community college I wouldn't have wanted to use your car. On the other hand if you commute 200 miles a day in rush hour traffic to down town, that would have been a possibility.

The other factor is how interesting is your car, will I even look at it? That is why you see the Scion Xb, PT Cruisers, Beetles, etc. Those cars are funky looking and tend to catch your eye. Finally there is the wrap its self. The people that install it claim that it will protect your car and keep the paint looking like new for several years. I don't know if the claim is true, but hey it sounds good. It costs from $300 - $10,000 to wrap a car depending on how much is covered. ie a few windows to a city bus.

I'd say if you can find someone willing to wrap your car and pay you to drive it, go for it.

Nice find... thanks.

In a way, when you read those sites that they list at the botton of the website, it almost seems like a scam to get you to join their site. I mean, I guess $30 is something to risk loosing for a potentially high pay for doing nothing.

Hmmmm... going to research this some more.

I knew that where you park would be a big deciding factor and I park near one of the only public train stations to take people into downtown NYC within a 10 - 15 mile range. And during the summer months, I'm constantly on the road driving down to my GF's shore house every weekend for about 150 miles (2.25 hours).

The Subaru really isn't a funcky car to look at, but I think what's on its side is that it is fairly large compared to others due to it being a wagon.

The thing now I guess is finding a place that I can put an application in for.

Would contacting a local advertising firm be a good start? I think I would rather deal with people in person rather than over the internet.

I think your instincts are good, it is better to deal in person. Where I'm at wrapped cars are not that common. To my way of thinking if someone really would pay you to drive your car there would be thousands of them. Somethings fishy.

(when I was looking it was during the dot.com boom and I only looked on the internet. For my needs the costs were too high so I quickly changed my mind.)

Either it's a little fishy or people just can't come to being able to accept driving around a car with a huge advertisement painted onto their cars. For some reason, the impression that I get is that people think that it is hurting their pride to drive around in a car like that or embarrassed to do such a thing, where as to me, I really don't give a sh*t what people think.

I have to admit, it would be weird driving a car like that to a wedding or something that has valet, but for cases like that, taking another car is an option for me, where as maybe to others it isn't.

I'll see if I can dig something up locally to see how these things work.

I appreciate your responses and thank you. You've been the best feedback I've got and I posted in another forums as well... lol.
