To All,

Who(m) do you use while surfing the Net? I use Mozilla Firefox.

I am pretty much exclusively a Firefox user. I gave Chrome a real shot, but in the end I am back FF. Chrome was hella fast, but it didn't have extensions I am accustomed to, plus there were just a lot of little nit picky things that it mishandled that drove nuts. It also seem to have real problems with imbedded application, it was very common that things like Java and Flash wouldn't work properly.

I will give it some time, if Google gets a lot of the issues with Chrome fixed, I would probably switch. Unless Mozilla figures out a way to really deflate Firefox so that it runs as fast as Chrome.

I also use Firefox. here is a little something for you FF users.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

I stumbled on this on another site so I decided to copy and paste it here:
a faster firefox yet with these instructions...the info below is from another site I belong to..the person is in computer science..I copied and pasted the info...FYI

I am in the IT field and I love Firefox like most you probably do. I ran on to this little tip the other day and I thought to myself this morning while riding my bike to work that I should share this with all you forum users. Firefox is set to default to a dialup connection so it will only download up to 4 things at a time, there is a way to change that IF YOU HAVE A HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION to download 30 things at a time, it's amazing the difference it makes in browser speed.

Here's How:

WARNING: This tip requires you to make changes to the way FireFox works and if not performed properly can cause performance issues.

If I have not scared you off yet, here are the steps to tell FireFox to download multiple items on a page at once, instead of one at a time:

- In the address bar, type “about :config” and hit return. Next, in the filter field, type “network.http” and change the following settings
(double-click on them to change them):
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at once, if you see a reduction in performance, reduce it to 20, etc.

Finally, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This new value is the amount of time the browser waits (0) before it responds to the information that it receives.

Close the browser and then re-open it to see the performance improvement!

Enjoy!
This REALLY, REALLY Speeds up Firefox!!! It is WAY faster!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Firefox.

+1 to wurkenman those changes made a big difference in the speed, thanks.

Firefox here.

I'll try that modification soon, the speed is my only complaint on FF.

To All,

Has anybody tried Thunderbird for E-mail? What are the pros/cons vs Outlook, etc. . .

I use Firefox for internet and outlook for my email. I'll use IE if I have to. As far as I am concerned IE should be taken off to a little corner and burned.

I have used it a bit. If all you are doing POP3 e-mail access, then I think it is pretty good, definitely a lot less bloated than Outlook. I have tried using it with IMAP, and HTTP mail applications (like Hotmail) and it is pretty buggy. As much as I hate to admit it, I am sort inextricably tied to my Hotmail accounts, and the only client that seems to work with them reliably is Windows Live Mail.

I use both Firefox and Opera.

The mouse gestures in Opera are good for really lazy surfers. Hold down the right button and open a link in a new tab, close it, refresh it and so on.

Hi, I use FF/TB for all my needs, I have found the same thing, pop3 works fine, but much else not so well. However, it is FAR easier and simpler than Outlook, and the filters are easy and work well, junk mail filters work well, and learn quickly.

Easy to set up for multiple accounts as well, and they all show in one pane. No switching profiles or anything, it lists all the folders and accounts on the left, and you deal with them as if it were one.

The only slightly annoying part of that is that when you compose, you have to make sure you have the correct OUTGOING address in the bar, otherwise you will be using one of your alias's.

Firefox all the way. Night and day between it and I. E.

Firefox > IE

When I started using Firefox I couldn't believe how much better it was. In many cases I've found that firefox is better on a slower computer than IE is on a faster one. I love it!

Add another Firefox to the mix. :)

Firefox on all our home PC's; but IE on the work laptop...

This is a bit of an illusion at best, and poor netiquette at worst. The default values are defaults because they're sensible & considerate. By doing this, you're just hammering servers with more simultaneous requests. Many webmasters throttle this so even if you have it set for 30, you can only get 4-8 simultaneous responses from their server - netting no gain.

I want to like Chrome. It's got some great concepts at its core, and some terrific technology. But I need my Firefox extensions. I'm rockin' Firefox on both Windows (at work) and MacOS (at home).

Until I switched to Mac, I used Thunderbird on Windows for years. Pretty much the only useable mail client on Windows that's free, as far as I could tell. I had been a die-hard Eudora user in college, but it stagnated and pretty much died.

Firefox. I also gave the google browser a try, but went back to firefox after about a few days.

What i would really like to see is a google operating system to compete with windows.

To All,

I wish FF would create Cell Phone to compete against the I-Phone.

I didn't do any before and after speed tests so maybe its just a optical illusion. The other guys at work are giving it a go so I will get some pretty good feedback from them about this change.

Speaking as a web master I say bring it on. My servers and data connections are sized for today's internet usage. If I can serve your page faster I'm happy to do it. Bottom line to me it doesn't really matter how many requests are sent to fill the page because if a page is 100K its a 100k. One request at a time or 30 I still have to deliver the same 100K. Now are there webmasters out there who do throttle their servers, no doubt. But from the users point of view what do I have to loose? The cranky old guy webmasters sites will continue to load slowly, while the progressive fun webmasters sites will load faster.

I got tired of IE constantly changing my layouts a long time ago. The wife finally got tired of it too. Happy with Firefox.
