A 1997 Nissan Pathfinder rolled off the stop sign on Plessenton as I came around the bend on Olentangy River Road. I swerved but failed to avoid her completely, and I landed in the ditch while the truck spun 180 degrees, facing back up Plessenton. Since I swerved I hit her on the rear quarter instead of squarely on the driver's door. I swerved to avoid hitting the Pathfinder squarely, so this was a glancing blow. The airbags did not deploy. You can see the color of the truck in the scratches on the fascia. The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 17:41:00 -0400 closeup

by: The_Lizard

Description: The subframe tore open and deflected upward, I take this to indicate that it rode up over the frame rail on the Pathfinder. This also tore off the end of the bumper. The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 17:38:50 -0400 from above

by: The_Lizard

Description: Seen from above, the lights were pulverized. The fender pushed the liner back far enough to rub the tire. The battery case is warped (tough to get a pic of that) and the battery is dead. The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 17:36:00 -0400 torn subframe

by: The_Lizard

Description: The subframe tore open at the corner weld, and the section with the tow loop rotated up and out. The AC condenser warped. The endpiece of the bumper tore off completely. The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 17:27:23 -0400 "FS one nearly intact grille"

by: The_Lizard

Description: The grille almost made it through intact. Note this is actually a Legacy grille, the body shop could not find an Outback grille, apparently. I actually liked this one better. The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 17:19:19 -0400 timing belt cover

by: The_Lizard

Description: The overflow bottle and the lower radiator hose jammed up against the timing belt cover. I cannot open the hood (yet) so this is the best view i can get. The engine stalled in the wreck and when I tried to restart it, it sounded like a box of rocks. I'm pretty sure the cam sprocket(s) got locked and the engine is toast. ...all seen through the gap where the subframe tore apart... The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 17:01:25 -0400 the snorkus

by: The_Lizard

Description: The passenger side is intact except the fascia and parking light are gone. The mythical snorkus is revealed, and as I thought it's basically a big waterpipe that buys you a little time when you immerse or splash the intake at the top of the radiator. The presence of a weep hole in the bottom confirms my suspicion. Note the metal brace holding the fender liner, these seem pretty frail for a vehicle that's supposed to go blowing through puddles. The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 16:58:48 -0400 right side profile

by: The_Lizard

Description: The right side in profile, notice the amount of rotor rust in ~3 weeks of sitting in a garage The_Lizard Thu, 22 Mar 2007 16:52:03 -0400
