The 2019 Subaru Ascent is Made for Americans and Their American Stuff

Quote:
The 2019 Subaru Ascent has made its official debut in Los Angeles, marking the arrival of the largest Subaru-badged vehicle to date.

The Ascent is aimed at young, growing families and is intended to help Subaru retain the customers that once had to leave the brand in order to get themselves into a larger vehicle. It rides on a lengthened version of the Subaru Global Platform (SGP) that also underpins the Impreza and Crosstrek. It will have three rows of seating, with the second row available with either a three-seat bench or two captain’s chairs at no extra cost. All versions but the base model will be available with the captain’s chairs, which are typically reserved for more premium trim levels in competing products.

Wonder if the 2.4 Turbo will be the engine used in the 2020 Outback re-design! That beats the 3.6R numbers and probably has a wall of torque behind it from 1500-2000 RPMs on up. That would be interesting.

My first thought as well.

I have absolutely zero interest in any vehicle in this size class. However, any re-powering of the rest of Subaru's line with this engine - and thinking in particular Impreza WRX or Levorg here - "would be interesting", to use your words. It would have to be something that has appropriate drivetrain and suspension upgrades capable of handling the resultant power-to-weight ratio.

Would the 2.4 require premium fuel?

Definitely a consideration for our next vehicle. It seems that Eyesight is standard, which is the right move imo. Also comes with things that are more common nowadays like lots of USB ports and a wifi hotspot.

Since all of Subaru's turbo 4s have. It's a safe bet this one will to.
