2006 manual - what do I need to know?

I'm looking at a 2006 2.5 Limited with manual transmission, 150k miles. Service records are available and though oil & fluids were kept up, it's never had timing belt replaced (so that would be the first thing I'd do). I don't see any evidence of leaking and owner denies any HG issues. Anything I need to check or keep in mind, or anything I need to know about these models, before I decide to buy? Guy is asking $4,000 for it.

Have you looked under the car at the under side of the engine for oil leaks? I'd say the head gasket are probably weeping oil by this mileage.

At 150k though, with the timing belt being as critical as it is, it would make me wonder what else has been ignored.

4k seems high. Is there a craigslist ad for us to be able to look at? At 4k, with those miles, needing a timing belt it better be in exceptional condition--especially if you're not in the PNW.

Not on Craigslist, but Facebook marketplace. I tried to post a link but not able due to being new. If you care to look for it, it's located in Ringgold, GA.

I don't think that many Limited models came out with MT, except for the XT.

It was listed on the model availability sheets, yes, but they didn't seem to build that many in the NA Limiteds. It was later dropped as an option; in 2008 my Limited only came with AT.

Thus, check the VIN and make sure this adds up i.e. not some rebuild.

check wheel bearing,s heater controls , cold air from one dash vet and hot air from the other is a blocked heater matrix . if it has a sunroof becareful . subaru do not have a good name for sunroof constructions .. wear on the drivers seat bolsters , broken wires in the tail gate so not all the lights will work etc etc ...

all 4 tires should be identical

after the car is warmed-up, do tight circles on dry pavement. The car should circle smoothly, no jerking/hesitation feelings.

timing belt is a ticking time bomb - 13 years old and almost 50% past mileage!
