Just picked this up for my daughter's first car. 1998, with 225K on the body and 80K on the engine. Lady driven her whole life, and meticulously maintained. Not a spec of rust anywhere. Now she just needs some rumbles!

Water beading up in one spot on the hood of the 97 OBW. It was caught in the glow of the street light. Found it interesting...

New to me..... 1996 Legacy Outback. EJ22. 5spMT 153k

Leaking oil from rear of engine and brakes won't pressure up due to fluid leaking from the cap of proportioning valve. Timing belt covers were left off last time belt was replaced (but will be put back on - the idler is already noisy). Still has all the covers and screws to put them back on. It might have a small pin-hole in the radiator. I thought I saw a puff of steam when I throttled up the engine (and then the fan came on).

Recent clutch install, (according to the seller), new brake pads, new front calipers (he was chasing the brake problem -- it only leaked when you pressured up the brakes). Likely needs a new clutch pad already depending on the size of the oil leak at the rear. Some body dings as well, not too bad, and the typical worn out factory paint job.

I drove it a bit, and the engine sounds and feels good, but I had to use the emergency brake to stop it (so the ABS light is on). Also don't know how well the hill-holder works yet, but I think it is a really cool feature. The inside is pretty clean, and the leather shows some wear, but is in good shape also.

Oh yeah, the shifter flops around too... New bushings should take care of it. Do I replace them all, or just the one with crossed tubes?

Paid $650. Project car for now. It came with 4 brand new KYB struts (actually for an Impreza), as he was going to lower it down, but I think I may go the other direction to give it a bit more ground clearance. I'll sell those and get a different set of KYBs. It does have the 16" alloy wheels. Once I get the motor back in my '00 Outback, this one is coming out.

Anything I need to watch out for that I haven't experienced with my 2nd gen wagons?

Hello. New here with my old 1998. Currently with 142,000 miles and still running strong. This is the best road trip vehicle I've ever had.
