Talking 1999 Outback HVAC

Does anyone know if there is a cabin air filter setup for a 1999 Legacy Outback?

If yes, what year/model could I pull from to get it installed?

If anyone has one for sale, please let me know - its for my wife's car.

Thanks!

It doesn't exist. Subaru's started having cabin filters in 2000+ models which are substantially different from 1999 and earlier. 1999 interior bits interchange with 1995-1999 stuff, 2000-2004 is another generation.

idosubaru - Thanks for the detail. It'd be nice if the 2000+ could be swapped into the 1999.

1 Lucky Texan - the valve covers are leaking a bit of oil, so the smoke/smell is getting into the cabin (I'll be fixing this next week), but was thinking more long term for when my wife is driving it again - keep the unpleasant smell of diesel out as she is driving our son around.

I don't think even a carbon-impregnated filter would keep the smell out - at least not for long.

get her an air freshener

I was just using diesel to give an idea - not an absolute.

I heard rumor that potentially the 2000+ Legacy/Outback cabin air filter setup might be able to be wiggled into the 1999 and prior.

And Repo Man? I'd prefer the radioactive glowing and flying (with an alien in the trunk) car over my wife. It also had one of the greatest soundtracks ever!

one of my 'guilty pleasure' movies

I tried to post the youtube clip;

you can buy sheets of carbon-impregnated filter material - I think sold for indoor dehumidifiers and similar - kinda thin so, might need to double-up. But, cut-to-fit.
