3 yr/36K maintenance cost

My '15 3.6 Limited Outback will arrive from the factory to the dealer mid-November.

In advance of finalizing the purchase, I'm grateful for anyone to share their experience negotiating the 3 yr/36K maintenance package. I've read a few other mentions of this, but thought I'd start a fresh thread.

Since this is negotiable with the dealer, it seems I should be in the ballpark between $1100-$1800 for this package. Thoughts and comments appreciated.

Why bother? That is a lot of money. The 30,000 mile service is around 500-600 here in Phoenix at the dealer. The rest is oil changes+tire rotation, maybe a filter or two.

How one gets to 1,100, let alone 1,800 is beyond me.

Moreover, the area dealers offered free 2y/24,000 mi maintenance in late 2013. Have they dropped that?

There is an existing thread for this where there is a lot of discussion regarding the pros and cons, as well as pricing information:
https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/...-packages.html. Best pricing I found which has often been used as a reference point can be found at post #5 which is directly linked at: https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/...ml#post1862249

7 qts Pennzoil 10w30 from Walmart - $21 + OEM filter = $27 x 6 changes = $162
Cabin Air Filter OEM - $20 x 3 changes = $60
Engine Air Filter OEM - $20 x 1 change = $20
Brake Fluid OEM - $6 x 1 change = $6
Tire rotation - $labor x 6 rotations = $???

Total parts-only for the 3-year duration - Retail = $248

Fair value of this package is about $725

Great reference- thank you. I've got some homework to do. Other than peace of mind, it doesn't seem the maintenance package pencils out overwhelmingly in the driver's favor.

Dealer "packages" rarely do.

In the same way never purchase the dealers "XY,000 service packages". They're a total rip off.

Those packages are mostly marketing based tools.

If you line-item tell them everything you want done from the required service items - it'll come out waaaaaay cheaper than asking for those mileage based "Service Packages".

They are marketing inflated fluff....you can search and read more of my comments and others about that as you get into maintenance down the road.
