I got my A129 2 channel dash cam over the weekend and pretty good feel about this so far. I tried installing it on my Outback with Eyesight. The best location seems to be behind the rear-view mirror for the front cam but that mean i need to run the extremely thick rear cam cable near the eyesight cameras. This dash cam comes with very thick cables for rear cam. The front cam's main cable is not an issue and i am able to push it above the eyesight cover. There is no way rear cam cable will fit there. Anyone has installed this ? Whats best way to install A129 on Subaru that have eyesight.

I installed th Street Guardian version of your camera and ran all 3 wires (power, rear cam) from the cam up beside the rearview mirror mount and to the left to the A pillar , then ziptied to the wire harness behind the airbag. Then the power down to the fuse box where an add-a-circuit was installed. the gps was placed right above the camera on the left. The lens of the camera peeks out just below the bottom line of the dot matrix. It is out of the eyesight camera scanning area.

The thick rearview cable is also along the top and runs around the sunroof and down the center of the headliner, into the right rubber tube into the hatch and comes out in the center of the middle trim where the rear cam is mounted to the glass.

No issues anywhere.

Thank you for the description. Just to clarify - is the rear camera cable running between the headliner and the roof or below the headliner in the cabin area?

I had a Viofo A119 and it worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, when I upgraded from my Camry Hybrid to the Outback, I left it in the Camry because it was so well hidden behind the mirror.

Hi, Marc. Thanks for posting this.

I am having my Viofo A129 duo installed on my 2018 OB today and I was considering placing in this very same spot.

Given it has been a while since you installed it there, can you share whether you have had any issues with Eyesight?

Also, I might try to run all 3 cables from the Eyesight housing towards the driver's pillar. From there, I am going to pull off the insulation trips to run the rear camera cable to the back. Do you think this may work?

Did you have to pull the eyesight plastic housing down and do the dome lights also just pop out with force? I assume its all clips so a hard yank should do it? I also just got an a129 and only installed the front camera so far with the temp usb power. Still waiting on the 3 wire kit.

Hopefully this helps with wiring:

I recently hard-wired my radar detector. It's an Escort so uses the old telephone-like cable (fairly thin). I, too, was concerned about the eyesight camera but I just pulled the wire straight across the top of the plastic and it seems to have just slipped behind the camera so no worries. Everything still works.

I wouldn't imaging the cables for an camera would be that much thicker. I had a Viofo 119A in my Civic before I got my Outback and it was just a normal USB cable being run. I'd think that would work in this situation. For the rear camera, I don't know. I've never installed the wire for that.

Thanks for your input, folks.

I managed to have my Viofo A129 Duo installed and I am pretty happy with the results.

The front camera was placed just under the rearview mirror, the camera itself and its cables are barely visible and I had no issues with Eyesight whatsoever.
I ran the cables under the Eyesight housing (no removal required) and then to the headliner all the way to the bottom of the driver's pillar. From there, I pulled off the insulation strip to run the cables through that removable piece of plastic and then to the fuse box (both have yellow outlines in the picture). Rear cam cable was run along the left side of the headliner, then through that rubber grommet that bridges cables to the tailgate. There this plastic piece on the tailgate that was pretty easy to remove with a yank, and once I placed the rear cam where I wanted, I snapped it back into place.

In the fuse box, fuses used were 7 and 37 (see picture).

I hope the pictures help you have a better idea.

I usually bring this up if it isn't clear when I see these installations. Make sure that however you ran the wire at the A-pillar that you didn't cross over the side curtain airbag. The best way is to pop the A-pillar trim off and run the wire under that airbag. I think another option that works is running the wire down next to the windshield but I haven't seen that for sure yet. If you tucked it under the trim up by the headliner and crossed over the A-pillar trim before running it down towards the dash then it is over the airbag.

On the driver side A-pillar there is a bundle of wires (all zip-tied together) which you can zip-tie your new wires to which should keep things out of the way.

Removing that A-pillar is pretty easy.. Just pull on the top, it'll pop out, there's a plastic hook there which you'll need to unhook, and then it just slides right out of the left side of the dash.

Please be sure to go BEHIND that airbag. You don't want that wire in the way of the airbag bundle if it were to go off. I took probably 30 minutes to hide it to the point of 'can't locate it' unless you khew which it was. I waaay overdid my install but I wanted it that way.
