No start issue

Hi did a search but didnít find an answer. Sorry if I missed.

I have a 2018 outback with the 2.5. Every so often, the car fails to start. It turns over fine but almost acts like it is flooded. It will eventually start with some coaxing. Any thoughts or experience wth this issue? Have about 7000 miles on it. It is under warranty...dread taking it to the dealer without some idea of what might be going on. I can picture the ďcanít duplicate issueĒ answer😀. Thanks!

Welcome!

Could be either the battery or it needs the TSB for charging. Either of those are pretty high on the possibility list.

so, it eventually starts?

is it cold, hot, wet, when it fails? fails only after sitting for hours/overnight? If overnight, be prepared to leave the car with them and insist on going back the next morning when they try it.

there may be pending codes stored or live data that might help with diagnosis.

even if it doesn't fail for the dealer, you will have the issue documented.

If the car is turning over just fine, I would rule out a battery issue.

Does it happen when the car sits overnight or after it sits for a short duration?

Question. Does this happen the morning after you start it cold, move it, then shut it down after only a few seconds and then let it sit overnight? That seems to be a thing with fuel injected cars.

My guess, based on insufficient information: fuel pump. I've had this happen a couple of times over the years.

Knowing more about the circumstances would help.

Simple things first. You are normally starting with your foot completely off the gas pedal, aren't you? Your use of the word "coaxing" may suggest otherwise. Perhaps it would help to explain exactly what you mean by "coaxing."
