We just got a quote for the 60k mi service. Who has had this done? Thanks.

Injection service is called customer fleecing it’s literally nothing but a fee added to your bill.

The other charges are higher than a good local shop but not by much.

Buy the way no such thing as a 60,000 service. There are individual items listed in your service book in the glove box. Dealers sell “mileage based service packages” to make 400% shop time.

Heh, I'd verbally "tune" them up a bit on that one. Have a look at your warranty & maintenance booklet to separate what's actually required from things you may or may not need. Diff service isn't required (but not a bad idea, IMO), filters are extremely easy to DIY, and plenty of folks stretch the plugs out to 80-100k (presumably part of the tune). Seems this isn't a quote, but rather an invoice?

Also a tip on alignment. Never have a dealer do alignment. Ask a tire shop who they recommend. They are always performance shops that have an alignment rack going non stop all day. My go to place is literally only a rack that is all he does.

Thanks for all the comments so far. It is a quote printed on my wife's invoice for an oil and filter change today. I will get out the book and see what is due. I was suspect of the injector clean service...we always use top tier gas and the car runs great. I am for changing the gear oil and cleaning/replacing screens in the f/r differentials. I'll have to check on brake fluid intervals. And I'm with you on alignment, but I need to look at the tires and see how they are wearing (on her second set of Deulers). Tune up likely is just changing plugs? Do they do a valve clearance check? Are the plugs iridium? I need to call them.

@2thdr, what year is your vehicle and where are you located? Time and climate can have impact on service requirements.

Regardless of your model year and climate, I would definitely have the brake and diff fluids changed if you have never had them changed before.

Bill

Considering first Outback but not new to Subaru.

It's a 2015 2.5L Limited. About 61,000 miles. I can't recall having differentials serviced or brake fluid flushed. This is the longest I've kept a car in quite a while. I flush and bleed my motorcycles brake systems every 1-2 yrs! Anyway, our climate is pretty mild here in Oregon in the Willamette Valley.

I think the biggest expense at 60k is plugs.

Other than than, look in your book at the service intervals. Do what it says, anything else is extra. That doesn't mean it doesn't need to be done, but go by the book first.
