2020 Legacy - a hint of what's to come

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/01/31/...ago-auto-show/

Some may complain about the giant screen. I say way to go Subaru! I thought the 2020 Legacy/Outback would have the same interior as all the new Subarus. This is a great strategy to keep the Outback relevant/desireble in its odd little niche in the lineup.

I couldn't wait for the 2020 OB, so I now have an Ascent but this Legacy interior is pretty striking.

Looks like the guy with the huge screen tip was correct

Unfortunately it seems looks wise it will remain the same. Wonder how it will compete with the new awd altima and rumored awd Mazda6

Looking at the interior itself the shifter is a clear nice upgrade, hopefully it will have a fake manual mode that doesn't rely solely on the paddle shifters, but I will mourn the loss of physical buttons for everything.

They gonna use the 2.4T from the Ascent in these?

Kenwood DMX7704S + iDataLink Maestro, Stock H/K speakers and amplifier. (Not hooked up yet: Hertz Energy component speakers, JL 12W6v3 HO Wedge, JL XD1000/5v2)

Painful reflections like crazy if they don't put some sort of eyelid over the top or mount the screen at a shallow angle.......I wish that HU screens would be placed in such a manner to discourage refections not guarantee them......

Other than that one "beef", so far, so good........the exterior and mechanical specs will tell everything.

That seems to be the case. 3.6R will be a thing of the past. Whether that 2.4T will be toned down for the Outback remains to be seen. Hopefully not.

Looks nice but it appears the interior design minus the screen is Forester ,Impreza, Ascent design. Focus on the vents same as Impreza just some brown vinyl surround.

Yup, similar to the other Global Platform Subes except that the HVAC knobs aren't visible as far as I can see......and the Crosstrek/Impreza cubby isn't there either.....looks like the screen just extends all the way down to the shifter console??

I really enjoy having all the HVAC controls completely separate from the infotainment screen. Knobs and buttons. The interior shot looks awesome to me in all other aspects though.

Looking MUCH closer at the image, I can see that Subaru STILL won't get rid of their fascination for eyes-off-the-road HVAC controls......dammit.

The LTD 2015 Gen 5 cars are horrible as far as the HVAC controls.....and this new version looks just as non-intuitive. So you have to take your eyes off what's ahead and stare down at the bottom of the new dash? Since the surround looks like it's piano gloss black, the HVAC buttons/slides/whatever will be just as hard to use.......

Will it stop me from buying? Nope....BUT I had really hoped that Subaru might have remembered that the machine-man interface needs to be direct and simple to decipher/input adjustments........

The 2018 Crosstrek/Impreza high end models all use the two or three dial HVAC controls.........hoped that the Gen Legacy/Outback would have done the same.

I tried voice controls on my 2015 OB to adjust temp, etc..........what a pathetic joke. Maybe the Gen 6 is closer to instantaneous response but I doubt it.....

Still will get the Gen 6 OB because the Ascent is just TOO big for a retired couple like us.....
