I wish I had put the engine back in and just drove it for a while like it was. Instead I dove right in head first. Now it is a long ways from driving again.

1974 Thing with both soft and hard top? Be nice to that hard top, they are usually worth as much as the rest of the car. I never owned one but worked on many.

I think the first thing I did to it was take off the hard top. I like it the best with no top at all. The soft top had been rolled up and hadn't been touched in probably 20+ years, maybe longer. I put it on mostly to see what kind of shape it was in and if it was usable. It took a lot of sitting out in the sun and stretching to get it fully into place. It has some issues but I think I can save it.

Are you restoring it back to factory condition or replacing the 46 HP engine with something a bit beefier?

Took me a minute to get a picture, it's been cold enough to freeze the nuts off a polar bear over here.

Bloody **** is that thing fast. I also can't really tell what color that is, because it changes all the time based on lighting.

Keeping it pretty much stock. I figure driving that for a while will make my 2.5 Outback feel like a rocketship.
I have new complete floor pans welded in but it's pretty much been on the back burner for a while until the mood strikes again.

I remember when those things 1st came out. I really like the idea until I actually inspected one. Talk about a tin can on wheels!
