'08 Outback factory subwoofer accessory from dealer installed.

I bought the factory subwoofer for the '08 Outback and had it installed under the front passenger seat and the difference was just amazing.

The boosted base capability now is so much better than what the factory setup was on the car that it can hurt your ears, but still no distortion at that db level.

I paid a local aftermarket autostereo place to put it in, and the cost was about $280 for everything. A little high for an easy job, but the result was the best stereo I ever heard in my life on a car.

I suspect that it being a station wagon helped.

I highly recommend this upgrade if you really love music. It is fantastic.

I agree, the factory sub works really, really well. It's pricey compared to the aftermarket stuff, but it's covered under the warranty, and it really sounds great.

Has anyone installed the Polk DB6501 speakers in the front? I'm curious as to how much of a PITA it is.

I'm going to pick up the OEM subwoofer too. I'm waiting for my first $100 Subaru Rewards coupon.

How much did the dealer charge to install the subwoofer? My dealer said it would take about 1.5 hours worth of labor.

Right now the sound system seems to lack a little something and I'm hoping the subwoofer will add some depth.

I have them in all doors. It wasn't too hard to do. You may need to make a spacer which would also take care of the holes not lining up. I don't have any window problems with mine and they sound great. I have a 98 outback.

I made the dealer throw this in to complete the sale and it does make quite a difference. My wife gave me **** when I was negotiating and now is very thankful I did.

Improvement

Well, I had the subwoofer installed and I think that the sound system is markedly improved. There certainly is more punch now. I had Elton John's greatest hits vol. one (I can't listen to any of his later stuff) and thought I could hear the album's full potential.

Turn the volume up and feel the bass in your chest. I would have to say that unless you listen to music at low volume (1-3), there is no question that the subwoofer is in play. When I have the volume at 10, the Outback is most assuredly thumpin'!

I would think that if you're not sure, then you don't have the sub.
