PHOTO POSTING INSTRUCTIONS:

There are two types of locations at www.subaruoutback.org that you are allowed to post your own photographs.
Below are basic instructions on how to attach, link and post your photos. If you see something that is incorrect or needs addressing, please post a question in this thread.

Instructions:

- Posting Pictures in a Forum Thread

- Posting Pictures in the Gallery

____________________________________________________
In the forums, posting photographs is generally allowed, however it requires you to do one of two things.

Option 1. "Attach File": This option allows you to attach an image from your computer into the bottom of your post.

You are allowed only one picture per post.
In Lieu of, I recommend the following:

Option 2. "IMG tag": This option allows you to link images that are hosted or saved on a remote server and post multiple images at once.
You do need to link each image at a time, using the web address that it is located at.

The "IMG" tag is located in the VB code area (see picture, linked by the way)

Click on the IMG tag and a JavaScript window pops up (see picture)

Here you enter in your address, preferably using the Copy (ctrl-C) and Paste (ctrl-V) method to link your address.
Make sure not to double up on the defaulted "Http://" Now, hit enter and you will see text that looks like:

Once you complete your post, your image(s) will load from the remote location. If you see the text instead, you may have mangled the link or process, so give it another try.

OR

If you are using a Site such as [url]www.photobucket.com[/url] that provides the IMG tag address ready to go (see picture) then simply Copy (ctrl-C) and Paste (ctrl-V) the address directly into the text area, bypassing the IMG tag button as described above.

and

Sites you can use to host your images remotely for free at:

Posting pictures in the Gallery:

The gallery is a place you can post as many images as you like up to a total quantity of 4,024 kb. This is the place to share your Subaru pictures.

Each user has their own gallery. To post pictures into the gallery, first select the gallery (see picture)

Then, select "Upload Photos" on the upper right side of your screen.

A new screen will show, indication a button called "browse". Press the browse button and locate the image you want on your harddrive.

If you did not remember to save your image somewhere that you can remember, hit yourself over the head. My photos on the harddrive are saved in a folder that looks something like c://user/my documents/my pictures/Subaru .

Now, enter in the rest of the information about "when, where, etc." and press "Upload/Submit" at the very bottom.

The image should be uploaded and available for viewing right away. For multiple image uploads, simply repeat.

After clicking "My Gallery" from within the Gallery area, you can get neat-o information about each of your images. (see picture)

In the event you run out of space in your gallery, delete your lamest pictures and then upload your latest masterpiece.

Notes:
- Please note in your thread title if you have a large quantity of images.
- Please abide by www.subaruoutback.org rules regarding approved content.

A little help here?

I've got a great post for the SUBARU OUTBACK > General > Problems & Maintenance > Oil and Fuel Discussion section. When I cut and paste this code all I get is a link not the picture. (there is no space in the pasted code. put that there to fool the system in to displaying what I wanted)

Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? Then you'll see why a picture of a hard drive makes for a great post in the oil forum :2:

Re: Image Editing Software

Boxxerace said:
Beside's the popular Photoshop @ $599.00 there are a host of free image editors.

Here you are:

Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/index.html

Paint.net: http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

Krita (part of an open source office): http://www.koffice.org/krita/

Pixia: http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/

CinePaint: http://cinepaint.movieeditor.com/ <-- interesting

MtPaint: http://www.btinternet.com/~mark.tyler4/mtpaint/index.html

Lastly, you know you want:

TuxPaint: http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/tuxpaint/
rather than try to figure out which of these is the best, i'll just ask, which one is the best ?

i'm sure that's a subjective question so whick one does more useful stuff ? which one is the easiest to use for editing, resiziing, making color into black and white etc.

thanks, i don't want super complicated, something to play with photos.

http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/

FREE! (...w/the purchase of a Mac, that is...)

( :p I'd be kicked out of the super-duper-mac-user club if I didn't say that... :p )

Or you could try Google's Picasa - http://picasa.google.com/

It's free, it's an excellent photo library organizer, and it has enough basic editing tools to get you by. Try it for a few days and see if it has enough for you. It's a Google product, so you know it'll be user-friendly...worst case scenario, you don't like it and you try something else.

Well now I have read this thread.

It's very informative. My camera does the whole 300dpi so I have really large photo files  So that bit about changing the pixels to 72 and the width to 1000 helped out a lot! thanks!

I prefer to use adobe products as well. Another fun photo product is: collage maker 2.05 I just picked that up the other day, and it's pretty fun.

OK, I've read through this, followed instructions and still cannot (for the life of me) figure out how to post a picture from my computer. I am well versed in image files, since I do digital microscopy as a marine biologist...and I am versed in using a computer. But, when I try to add an image all I get is an option for adding a link from a hosting site.

Am I missing something, or is that the only option? Could it be a browser issue? I run IE 10 but could try something else.

Here ya go. Just remember, the file from your computer CAN NOT be larger than 1MB.

After you have all the files you want to attach listed, click the upload button. After it uploads, the files are listed in the lower part of the pop up window. Then you can close that window then click to post.

As for getting the attachment into the post in a larger format, that's next semester's class and will be $500 for the 3 minutes. I have PP :D

Oh ****! Thanks cardoc! I was just using the quick reply....I guess that is why I could not find the attach file option.

OK, going to try it out now. Thanks for the help. Every forum is different. And for the record, I did read through this Q&A thread.....I just didn't catch on to the "Post Reply" button. More egg on my face. It will blend with my battery face egg I guess.

New to the forum; loving my Subie. I have a few tire questions. Living in Alaska- new to the "ice on snow" roads; doing 70 miles a gay on the infamous Glenn-Hwy. I'm using Hankook i-pike winters (225/60/18) and doing ok; always looking for something better... Aren't we all? Considering Hakapeliitaa 8's... Think I could do a 245/50/18? I'm thinking this size will be ok (2015 Outback 3.6) as the overall ratio doesn't change dramatically.... I'm no tire expert and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn ???

Even newer to the forum :smile2:
Are these Hankooks studded? If yes, it's one of the best for ice and snow. If no, you might try Hakkapeliitta or Blizzak, but there won't be a significant improvement. I've got Hankook ipike without studs on Legacy and Blizzak on Outback. No difference on mud and snow, but on wet ice Blizzaks seem to be sticking better.
Regarding the size, no clue, never tried anything but stock 17".
