  1. Thinking of buying a 2018 outback 3.6 - Lemon

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I think most of that has been resolved. My 18 is an early one, bought in Aug 2017. I had a couple of infotainment hiccups real early on, did the couple of updates, and it's been all good since. Note that I don't use android auto or apple play, or plug anything into my system so not sure if...
  2. Thinking of buying a 2018 outback 3.6 - Lemon

I'd offer them around $18k for the car to start and go from there. And tell them you want the super long gold warranty thrown in. Maybe if you can pay cash that might create a little more leverage for you.
  3. Body strength - or lack thereof?

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
My 2 cents on the body strength topic - the thinness of the roof is pitiful. Thinner than paper probably. It can't withstand a buckeye falling out of a tree without leaving a depression. I got two dents in my roof, not real noticeable but I can see them. Did you ever notice when waxing your roof...
  4. Driver Seat Squeak

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I recently did the lithium grease fix as prescribed by Jonxmann and all is good. No squeek, totally quiet. My 2018 didn't start squeeking till earlier this year at about 23k miles. It wasn't too bad and I'd sometimes quiet it by just moving the seat thru some other motions. But it got more...
  5. Front End Rattle/Clunk

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
Yep, the ol "standard operating procedure" at many Subaru service depts. They're always looking for the easy way out. Customer satisfaction?, what's that?
  6. Subaru places HOLD on sales and deliveries

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
I too agree with you guys about the cladding. Frankly I think it's real bad. Way too much of it and just not done right. Looks like some basic crap that belongs on a budget entry level vehicle.
  7. 2018 3.6 or 2019 2.5i

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
No regrets with my 2018 3.6. I've had it for almost two years, near 24k miles and love it. I've never checked the mpg that it gets. It's quiet, smooth, almost powerful enough, and satisfying to drive for a daily driver. It gets me to the golf course and elsewhere just fine.

My 2 cents on the new look forum - I don't like it. I didn't read many of the prior posts so not sure of the consensus. Most of the new "features" mean very little to me. The whole thing wreaks budget.
  9. 2020 Subaru Outback Cup holder size?

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
I've used the Nalgene bottles for many years and the 1L model only fits in my truck. But I've come to realize I don't need a bottle that large most of the time. Nalgene makes a thinner 24 oz bottle that I have and I like it more. I forget the name of the model but it has a quick flip top...
  10. Saying Goodbye to Outback back to Toyota

    General Discussions
You rarely can go wrong with a Toyota. I've had many, cars, trucks, one 4 runner. All good. Today I seen the upcoming 2020 Highlander in a review; it looked fairly nice and maybe more in line for me if I went with Toyota. Maybe too large though, idk. If I go upscale, I'm really liking the look...
  11. NYC = First Auto Show for 2020 OB !!

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
Wow is that thing ugly. Is that the best they could do? That cladding while functional is bad, really bad. Even the inside is weak. That POS just increased the value of my 18 significantly. I'm stunned really. Now and then that happens with the different manufacturers. I guess it was Subaru's...
  12. Fuel gauge recall 2018

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I finally went in to get mine fixed a few weeks ago. I was hesitant as I figured they'd scratch something or create a squeek. No issues though, at least nothing apparent. I never use the miles to empty feature or half the other nonsense stuff. Being old school I use the gas gauge and/or the trip...

I still haven't checked mine, even after 20k miles. It's not a priority for me.
  14. Need new tires. Frustrating

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, & Suspension
Maybe consider these BFG's. I may give them a try when I'm due. They come in a 245/55/18 which would be wider but no taller than the stock 225/60/18, if someone wanted that wider look. Also those General Altimax RT43 are a good highly rated tire than can be had for a fair price...
  15. Interior LEDs for 2018

    Electrical & Electronics
I finally jumped on the LED bandwagon, changing out the fogs and reverse lights. I got time on my hands so now I want to change some interior lights specifically the dome and the rear cargo. Would someone confirm the dome is a 3175 and the cargo a 921? Or if not please advise. Thx.
