  1. Repeatedly getting P0302 code

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Diagnostics on any vehicle, but especially ours, is not a fun task if you don't have much time or money. Ask me how I know... ;) How SURE are you that you lined up the teeth and timing marks on your timing belt? Like, are you DEAD sure? I've heard that being even just 1 or 2 teeth off can make...
  2. LED fog lights - anyone tried this?

    Gen 4: 2010-2014
It sounds like you're set on LED's for the fogs, especially because they offer the colors you want for a cheap price. But if you depend on fogs for the added light, consider HID's. I bought a kit for $170 total (including the slim digital ballast) for my main headlamps. Man, what a difference...
  3. OBXT new sways, used DP, and question

    Parts, Accessories, & Performance
Seabass? The guy from Dumb & Dumber? haha ;) Thanks for the input! I'll PM him.
  4. 2005 OBXT 5MT shifting

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Do you have another daily driver you can use? or are you going to bolt on a loaner valve body and keep driving your OBXT? Duderasterman, I'm super jelly right now...I just bought a downpipe and will be doing an install/tune this weekend. Next might be the Hex VB upgrade. Let me know how it...
  5. Do the MAJORITY of mechanics Rip people off?

    Problems & Maintenance
I just read Euchre's post above my last one and he brought up a good point - upsell vs. preventative maintenance vs. critical problems. A good shop will ALWAYS document which category the recommendations fall into.
  6. Do the MAJORITY of mechanics Rip people off?

    Problems & Maintenance
It's a tough business. I managed a car shop for a few years while I was in school. I now completely understand where they're coming from. First off, yes, a lot are crooks. And I won't speak for them. But for the rest of us - here are some things to think about: 1. If the shop pays technicians...
  7. Tablespoon of oil at each spark plug boot

    Gen 2: 2000-2004
I'd have to agree with cardoc - but I have an '07 that I did the belt on not too long ago, so I'm not sure if it's much the same, but I can't imagine it's much different. I found that with having two dudes wrenching around, the extra space was nice. In regards to the crank bolt, I found a...
  8. OBXT new sways, used DP, and question

    Parts, Accessories, & Performance
I recently purchased a new Whiteline 20mm rear sway bar and a used Invidia divorced catted downpipe (with 2 - 3,000 miles on it), and painted my cans. Pictures below. At the bottom of the thread, I have an important tuning question for other OBXT guys/gals, or anyone with a turbo'd Subie...
  9. 2005 OBXT 5MT shifting

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
I often wonder if the Hex/IPT upgrade valve body modifications make a difference in this respect...
  10. 2005 OBXT 5MT shifting

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
I realize that the 5eat is nothing like the MT, however, I JUST noticed today that in manual mode, i shouldn't downshift from 2nd to 1st at all - just let the computer do it because 1 out of 5 downshifts results in a tiny little clunk.
  11. Fumoto Valve

    General Discussions
I just added the fumoto valve (w/nipple) yesterday on my '07 XT. It seems to be the lowest hanging part under the vehicle. I haven't put my factory skid back on because I thought I might return it. But then again, I may not. I see that OBnube had no troubles on his '13...anyone have troubles...
  12. Timing Belt Kit: A or B?

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
mrk610 - The kit was complete. The only thing I had to get separately was the seal for the oil pump I bought. I upgraded to the Sti oil pump from Rockauto.com. Luckily I had a buddy with an extra seal. Otherwise, I bought the Gates kit with a water pump and it was all there - even some extra...
  13. Timing Belt Kit: A or B?

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
I just did mine last weekend and found the Gates kit to be extremely thorough: Gates TCKWP307 Engine Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump : Amazon.com : Automotive Not sure if that's the right kit or not - do your due diligence and check. But I think you can save a lot of money by going with this...
  14. Which year 1st gen should I get?

    Gen 1: 1995-1999
I'd love to get my hands on another one and do a WRX swap. Unfortunately, I've already got 2 other projects, and I don't have a money tree growing in my backyard.
  15. Just did timing belt, now cold starting issue

    Problems & Maintenance
Glad to hear it's running well. I just did my timing belt last weekend and was surprised to see my timing off by a notch on both sides (DOHC 2.5XT). Not sure if it came like that from the factory or if someone has been in there before, but at least now, my car runs like a top! The burning...
