  1. Petty things for dealer to fix (like mpg gauge and steering wheel alignment)

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
My warranty is up in about a year. I figure I might as well tie up some loose ends. In my head, I had three petty (but legit) things the dealer needs to do. However, I currently can only remember the following two petty things: 1. Adjust mpg display by -5%. 2. Align steering wheel by 1 cm to...
  2. What did you do with your 5th Gen Outback today?

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
What transparency percentage on the tint?
  3. Need advice on new tires for 2019

    Tire Discussion
I replaced my tires right away (at like 200 miles or so) with Nokian WRG3 Asymmetric. However, I needed competent snow performance. The OE tires are not the ones for that. If not for my need for snow performance, I would have left the OE tires on. Based on your original post, your only concern...
  4. Spider in Eyesight chamber

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I would absolutely kill that spider myself. An unmotivated tech will just shew it away, and the spider will then find a home in your headrest. Surprise!
  5. Eyesight disabled message

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
Is any transponder mounted on the windshield anywhere? The manual shows a gigantic area on the windshield that should be totally clear. It looks to be about 80% of the windshield. To be safe, I would not put anything on the windshield.

    2.5 or 3.6?
  7. Disabling EyeSight

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I was told the same thing in this thread: https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/eyesight-longevity-disabling-eyesight-10-years-from-now.514007/
  8. What did you do with your 5th Gen Outback today?

    What trim did you get?
  9. EyeSight shuts down and all warning lights on dash illuminate

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
Other brands (including more expensive brands) have similar issues. Check out their forums. Also, the people who have problems are a small percentage of the whole customer base, and they tend to be the ones who show up here. By the way, I test drove a 2019 Outback 3.6 Touring last weekend...
  10. EyeSight shuts down and all warning lights on dash illuminate

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
Let’s ignore the last two because there is no requirement for a collision avoidance system, and we are obviously not talking about electric cars. Despite all the remaining requirements you mentioned, a car maker could still release a car that has way less tech than any 2020 Subaru.
  11. Driver Seat Squeak

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
Yeah, I sometimes forget to appreciate the range on my 2.5. I don’t drive much. So, sometimes I go weeks without filling up. What other SUV in the $30k range has an amazing AWD with an outstanding range?
  12. EyeSight shuts down and all warning lights on dash illuminate

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I am not sure if you are joking, but there will be a growing market for such a car as other cars get more tech heavy. But the price should be “shockingly lower” than tech heavy cars, not just “affordable”. Also, the car maker should literally advertise the intentional lack of features. They...
  13. Gen 5 Adjust MPG's

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
The service manual I have is called “FSM 2015 (BN-BS)”. Did you print out that page and show them? They can do a word search for “12. User Customizing”. That page is the first thing that popped when I did that search. Why do some dealers refuse to lift a finger to help?

That important behavior is not obvious at all. Not everybody is as wealthy as you. I have to discuss new tech before plopping down $35k on it. In extreme temps, that behavior would mean the engine is not cutting off at all. For example, there is no way the internal temp is actually reaching 68F...
  15. Auto Start/Stop

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
I already said why in my post you quoted. Also, the Outback's faults are well known to me after spending many hours on this site. It would take me a long time to ramp up with another brand.
  16. 2018 headunit issues thread.

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
There is not much disagreement here, except I use Apple Car Play and never use voice command. I have long advocated for a head unit that is merely an amplification of the phone. Apple Car Play is about 35% there. Actually, I would be happy with a head unit that is merely an amplification of the...
  17. Auto Start/Stop

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
Hey, I am just doing my best to remain a Subaru customer. I don't have S/S and really don't want it. The two main things I must have on my Outback are the AWD and the hatchback. I am doing everything I can to like all the added doo-dads, but Subaru is walking on thin ice.
  18. 2018 headunit issues thread.

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
And you think I am arguing against that how? Let me clarify. Imagine these two options: (1) a rock solid head unit with a 4" screen, 2004-ish styling, totally logical, has everything most people need, built to last without issues for the next 20 years. (2) a modern head unit with an 11"...
  19. Rear lift gate randomly won’t open

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
That is totally confusing, but it is not your fault. The rear gate system is more complex than necessary. Subaru went out of their way to ignore the KISS principle on this one.
  20. EyeSight shuts down and all warning lights on dash illuminate

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
A car maker has to at least try to design a car to be idiot-proof. The Christmas lights (Eyesight disablement) are a clear sign to all people (including idiots and above) that something in the car needs to be fixed right now. Without impacting a driver’s inner circle of comfort, most people will...
