  1. Outback owner stereotypes

    General Discussions
When I worked at Subaru in the service department, here are the type of people I saw getting out of their Outbacks: - Big, built men and their skinny boyfriend/husband, - Big, built men and their drop-dead-gorgeous wives, - Drop-dead-gorgeous wives and their fairly masculine-looking female...
  2. What's the most depressing "let down" from your Suby?

    General Discussions
Honestly the worst is the fact that the 3rd Gen OBW's have the rear hatch wiring harness/cord issue that's so wide-spread that can take out your headlights, brake lights, reverse lights, rear defogger, rear wiper/washer system and pretty much anything else electrical and Subaru doesn't really...
  3. Mighty Car Mods (MCM) & SuperGramps

    The Village
Not really 3rd gen related but can be Subaru related, so I'm just gonna post here. I've been following MCM for a while now and when I was at the Apple Store in Mall of America getting my MacBook Pro's display and motherboard replaced, saw that the iMac Pro's screen on their floor had a ton of...
  4. So... how did you find Outback.org?

    The Village
Used to be active in the Grand Am Owners Club forum for a while - then MNMazda, Mazda 3 Revolution, Mazda 3 Forums... then now here. Met some pretty sweet people in person in those other forums. Hopefully I can meet some pretty cool peeps here as well.
  5. Headlamp problem no low or fogs, DRL still works

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
I attempted to DIY that sucker, the headliner was pissing me off. I was able to get most of the trim out of the way to replace myself. I kept creasing and creasing the headliner I just said eff it -- I'm already creasing the headliner and I haven't even bought the freaking part yet. Just wanted...
  6. Headlamp problem no low or fogs, DRL still works

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
81812AG03C "CORD-BACK DOOR" in the amount of $72.57, $5.72 in tax and 2 hours of labor at $87.21/hr.
  7. Steering wheel vibration at interstate speeds

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Sorry to revive an old thread -- Similar issue I had at 62-63mph exactly the steering wheel would shake - doesn't matter if I'm coasting or accelerating. Turns out at least for me was both front struts, both front lower control arms which my dealer replaced under an extended warranty I...
  8. How many miles should I get per tank?

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
With CEL on - 80% highway and no cruise (obviously) averaging approx 47mph, I'm getting an average of 26.3mpg and just about 320 miles before it dips below 1/4 tank.
  9. Headlamp problem no low or fogs, DRL still works

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
So what I ended up doing I guess by accident is with opening the hatch and closing it, it shorted a fuse in the dash called "ILL IGN" I believe due to the exposed wires in the body and hatch. Replaced the rear harness at a whopping $252.71 (including dealership family discount and all...
  10. Headlamp problem no low or fogs, DRL still works

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Also for what it’s worth, the instrument cluster dims, the parking light indicator on the cluster also turns on. When the lights are off and I flash my high beams it just turns off the DRLs, no blue high beam indicator turns on, no fog light indicator either.
  11. Headlamp problem no low or fogs, DRL still works

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
I was putting some stuff back into the hatch earlier today, went inside then was about to leave home again when I came across no headlights. Low beams don’t work, high beams don’t work, fog lights don’t work, parking lights still and and the drl still works (high beam on low intensity) I’ve...
  12. P0420 O2 w/antifouler now has P2096

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Interestingly enough, it turned itself back off after I got my haircut today. Weird. Still have the antifoulers installed and haven't done anything else to it except continue to put fuel into it. I guess I'll just mark this as a cold case. Maybe it just learned that that's the new norm? I know...
  13. P0420 O2 w/antifouler now has P2096

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Yeah I'm reading the codes using the instrument cluster trick. The O2 sensor that I pulled out was a Denso I do remember that. It was easier than I thought to remove, which suggests that it has been removed/replaced before. Usually rust sets on those suckers here in Minnesota. As far as I know...
  14. P0420 O2 w/antifouler now has P2096

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Since doing the mod, it was fine for about 50 minutes then CEL came back on. Did the light on trip 4x trick and found some few codes -- most relating to front and rear wheel speed sensors and a CANbus communication error. A new one though was besides the P0420 now throws P2096. Now, from doing...
  15. Rear wiper stops randomly

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Interesting. I’ll take a look into the harness. Is it a relatively common problem for the wires to break at the hinge? Ironically enough my reverse lights intermittently work while playing around with my hatch lift height.
  16. Rear wiper stops randomly

    Gen 3: 2005-2009
Just bought a 2008 2.5i Gen3 Outback. When operating the rear wiper on intermittent mode, it stops at random points during the wipe, then starts again then stops at another random point. If it turn it back off mid-wipe it'll keep the wiper arm at that location. When I put it into "On" where it...
  17. I made the switch to mac and I am happy

    The Village
I'm on this 'lovely' Acer laptop, Intel i3, 4GB DDR3 with shared VRAM, 500GB HDD. I had a 17" MacBook Pro that I sold to a coworker because the HDD kept going out on it. It was like a lemon. But I must say, I do miss Mac OS X.
  18. So... how did you find Outback.org?

    The Village
First found this site when I had a Subie customer come in wondering if it's possible to turn off the audible beeping lock/unlock confirmation on her Outback. Instead of sending it into the shop, having her wait and possibly pay for the fix, I simply googled it and came across this fine site! Did...
  19. Greetings, from Minnesota.

    New Member/User? Look Here!
Kevin, here. First thing's first. I do not own a Subaru, nor have I never owned one. I drive a '12 Mazda3. I do, however work at a Subaru dealership in Minnesota. I hope to help you fine folks in hopefully getting your problems figured out, and to socialize, and see what's going on in the world...
  20. headlight bulb replacement 2010 outback?

    Gen 4: 2010-2014
Yep. All covered under the original in-service date of 3/36k. If you, for whatever reason bought your vehicle second-hand then call your local Subaru dealership. heck, I can check it for you. I work at a Subaru dealership, too. As for the steps to replace that stupidly placed bulb, my techs...
