  1. Subaru places HOLD on sales and deliveries

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
The turbo 2.4 has had some odd ball fuel related failures. I’d bet Subaru is going through those again to make sure the #1 seller doesn’t become the #1 liability.
  2. I didn’t realize fog lights are not legal for “regular” use

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
You have it backwards. US Automotive laws require rally style lights to be disabled when high beams are activated.

I started carrying the small jump pack with me a couple of yrs ago for this reason. Plus it will charge a cellphone too. Having said that!! The jump packs will only jump a battery if they detect some voltage to start with. A totally flat battery won’t trigger the small jump packs to energize...
  4. 2020 Outback, worth the wait?

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
I’m thinking 2020 plugin Aviator coming off lease or private seller 30,000 miles used. I refuse to drop $70,000 on that thing or $50,000 on the non plugin Explorer. But the specs on that new platform look near perfect very very close to my 2005 Sequoia in the right dimensions.
  5. 2020 Outback, worth the wait?

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
Same deal here waiting on the Explorer/ Aviator. I have an old 05 Sequoia and a getting tired 2010 OB. Ideally I want plugin 7-8 passenger to replace both. 2-1 swap. I nixed the Ascent. Very slight chance I just keep the Sequoia and get a plugin hybrid with similar seating and rear hatch space...
  6. transmission or valve problem???

    Gen 4: 2010-2014
When you say 100k who did it and what did they do?
  7. Burning/Consuming Oil, is this normal?

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
I do run 10-30 during the summer occasionally in the old 2010 EJ 2.5 and my 2005 4.7L Toyota V8. My wifes 2016 Fusion Energi I stick with no higher than 5-20. Is there any mechanical factors with the current modern engines where oil weight would pose a problem? I honestly don’t really know...
  8. Burning/Consuming Oil, is this normal?

    Gen 5: 2015-2019
Wow 10-40! I haven’t run that in anything but my 1985 diesel tractor engine. 5-30 and 5-20 is about as far as I have gone with the modern engines. I haven’t Any luck with 0 weights they all have a high volitility resulting in oil loss over a short mileage period.
  9. 2006, horn blaring during jump start, now completely dead

    Problems & Maintenance
If you have a after market alarm all bets are off. No telling what electrical harness the installer hacked into and screwed up.
  10. 2006, horn blaring during jump start, now completely dead

    Problems & Maintenance
If a battery fails the horn which is tied to the security system might go off. I have had this on a number of vehicles with dead / dying batteries. Nothing wrong with the car just a bad battery. Put the fuse back in then restart the car. All modern factory security systems reset when the key...
  11. 2020 tongue weight

    Gen 6: 2020-Future
It for sure should get higher load numbers but hard to say what Subaru will run with. I do think the biggest negative with the current Outback is its load rating. You load 4 adult mountain bikers in it, add 4 bikes, a cooler for post ride libations and a couple of odds and ends and the OB...
  12. Car not warming up? Stuck open T-Stat?

    Gen 2: 2000-2004
air in the system heater core cools off due to no hit coolant. Try burping it

The KOs are “the” tire for heavier trucks 4x4’s but just wrong on the light Subaru. The Coopers are pretty good great alternative for the lighter rigs.

That would for sure help. But it would ride worse than the Taco with KOs on it. If you can find some running KOs go for a ride. Even with stock suspension the KOs transmit quite a bit of sharp feedback to the cabin. Thats why the softer Coopers are popular.

I was eyeing Rallitek springs at one point. Slightly higher load ratings 1.5ish bump which is max before you start getting drive line angle issues and vibration plus added wear on that stuff from the bigger angles. In the end I skipped it. I just deal with the loaded sag few times a yr isn’t...

I found shifting roof gear as far forward as possible helps keep the rear sag factor as minimized as possible. If you do cabin stays then you should easily be able to swing the stock springs. Its just the camping gear crap that really starts to kill the ride height. Even bikes I like to keep it...
  17. Did they fix the old head gasket problem in the 2010+ model? New problems? Honda CRV?

    Gen 4: 2010-2014
Yeah failed internal heat exchanger in the radiator for the AT is rare but possible. That would no doubt cause coolant to blow out of the cap or any loose fitting. Price seems very fair

Our Moab trip will have quite a bit on Graded roads. Might do Moki Dugway pending wife’s response to some of the more mild stuff. If I were solo and doing the light back packer in the car trip the OB on the Advantage Sports hands down would be my choice. I could pack light enough to retain...

I had a J80 LC before the Sequoia with Kos they were needed on that heavy beast. The Sequoia I did 5 yrs on BFG Rugged Terrains didn’t like them on that rig as much as the KOs on the LC. I’m doing an experiment just put the BFG Advantage Sports on the Sequoia. I have about 2500 miles on them and...

Last yr the OB did a 9 day South Lake Tahoe camping trip. Three coastal camping trips. This fall I’m going to try and make it to Pinicles NP probably with the Subaru. For shorter trips the OB is our family choice. Longer trips Yellowstone etc the Sequoia is the easy choice. In a couple of yrs...
