Hi friends! I’m going to be replacing the rear rotors/hubs/bearings and was wondering if I needed to bed the pads with the new rotors? The pads are fine. We really should have replaced the rotors last year and I’m not side why we didn’t. Thanks in advance for any guidance. More questions: Is...

Bought a 2014 outback 175k miles it’s drives great but the brake light keeps flashing and the ATTemp Light keeps flashing I bought a Bluetooth diagnostic tool that monitors everything while I’m driving and it’s saying what I’m seeing it’s driving great. These are the codes I’m currently getting...

Howdy, I'm replacing my rear brake lines which rusted out at the 4way connector. I originally tried unions with the OEM lines under the passenger seat, but they failed during bleeding. I am now running NiCopp line from the engine compartment back to the brake hoses. I am having trouble...

Hey guys, I have a 2003 subabru outback AWD (250k+ miles) that has some issues lol. I've noticed that when I brake normal or hard-ish and then I begin to drive normally my wheels squeal bad. This also happens if I hit a pot hole or something similar. I have noticed that if I brake slow...

The front brakes on my '08 LL Bean are coming due. The prev owner annoyingly put new pads on old rotors and it's been a vibrational breaking experience for the past 2.5 years (they were at 4 or 5mil back then and still haven't worn down...!!) Doing some front end work this season, figure I...

Hello, My brother recently bought an 06 Outback and has had a couple issues the past couple days and I was hoping to get some info. I'm a Honda guy, and know little about subies, so bare with me. Yesterday, he was driving home and noticed a burning smell that led to his discovering his brake...
  7. Gen 5: 2015-2019
I was out in my 2019 OB yesterday on a rainy day, and a couple times, it slid quite a bit on the wet pavement. First, I could feel the back sliding out on a turn. Then I slid when I hit the brakes hard. It startled me both times. I was able to correct, but it startled me both times. My tires...

I recently attempted to replace my front rotors, pads, and calipers with AutoZone Duralast Gold. Everything according to AutoZone says that the parts should've fit my vehicle, however, they did not and did what I believe to be bending the caliper mounting surface I circled in yellow. I have now...
  9. Problems & DIY Maintenance
Hello everyone, just purchased a 2003 Outback 2.5 sohc, 5mt, approximately a month ago, with new drive shaft and rear. Bought with a scraping issue, was told by the previous owner it's brakes. So I replaced all pads, calipers, and rotors (a bit overkill but they were rusted quite bad in the...
  10. Suspension & Brakes
So this is my first post, sorry this isn’t related to an Outback… I have had this squeaking/squealing noise every time I turn or accelerate for the past week. I had my stepmom drive my car a couple of days ago and googled the issue, and came up with a possible problem of the ball joint/bearings...

Hi there feller "ru" owners Small back story here, short and sweet to the point. I've wanted a Subaru of any model for the last 15 years, my early teenage years. Recently, in February I was able to get my hands on one with 170,xxxmiles. I've started my own maintenance on it and ive hit a...

When I bought my Outback (used, at 25K miles) the brakes had a bit of a pulsing, noticeable mainly just when going downhill at high speed. I replaced the pads and had the rotors turned. Now, at about 150K miles, the problem is back, much worse than before. I suppose it could simply be...

My backing plate is rusted and bent pretty bad and needs to be replaced. All my searches are coming up with backing plates for foresters or the closest one I can find is one off of subaruparts.com for a 2003 outback. anyone know where I can buy a rear right backing plate or even the whole...
  14. Gen 4: 2010-2014
Hi folks, first post. I’m not sure if this sub forum or the “problems“ one is correct. Info that might be relevant: -pads replaced a few days ago -slight vibration in brake pedal at end of braking (right around stoppage) —Squeak/groan sound rear left wheel when brakes applied and car is shaken...

I have fixed the issue now, but for anyone with a constant grind after doing pads and rotors, CHECK THE CALIPER PINS! Chased the noise for a while until I discovered the lower pins were seized on both sides. Hope this helps someone!

Just installed Trq drilled and slotted rotors front and rear with carbon ceramic pads. Also did new front calipers. The braking performance improved exponentially. Strongly recommend to anyone thinking about overhauling their brakes.

Ok, Thanks to @Brucey we know the ascent brake package works on the Outbacks. According to what I think I'm interpreting correctly the 2022+ WRX brakes will also work so eventually there will be higher end brake packages that could do the same job as the ascents but just easier to obtain? I say...

I have a 2016 Outback 2.5i Limited and getting ready to change the rear brake pads and rotors. This is my first Subaru and I have been researching OEM and aftermarket options for pads and rotors. I came across this statement on the Subaru Dealership site: Using generic brake pads and rotors when...
  19. Suspension & Brakes
Hi there, so I bought a 2017 Subaru Outback Limited 3 weeks ago and this squeaking has started. It’s like a bird chirping almost but it’s very noticeable. It sounds like it’s just in the drivers side front tire, and it only happens when I press the brakes lightly. The moment I put some actual...

Hi y'all. I'm driving a bit of a rust bucket, but am trying to fix her up. Did the rear brakes over the winter and it went smoothly, and now am doing the fronts. I was surprised when I encountered the dual cylinders, but I kinda knew how to deal with them I thought. Anyways, on to the...
