Mechanic advised me against doing this
We don’t have any service history on If it was done prior. The CVT shifts smooth like new. Any ideas or suggestions ??

no experience here but, from what I have read;

1. general consensus is change the fluid. 60k, 75k....something like that???

2. there have certainly been issues with DIY (but not impossible) so, a mechanic outside of a dealership should be very familiar with Subarus I think to do this.

Yes do it but as advised above make sure the workshop knows what they are doing as there is a set procedure when refilling which includes getting the transmission to a set temperature to determine if level is correct.
