2006 Outback 2.5i (stock) daily driver with custom wheels and Thule rack

Hello, I have a 2006 standard base 2.5i with automatic. Is it possible to reliably upgrade the engine to a turbo version? I am not sure if this is possible or advisable but curious to know. I like the car very much but the 140 hp can be a real dog at times...
