I'm looking at getting a used Outback between the years 2000-2004, most likely a 2002.

I just stumbled across a decently priced 2004 OB with 161,000 KM on the odometer. My question is that is right around the mileage where the head gaskets go and the seller has mentioned nothing about it on the craigslist ad, are 2004 Outbacks better for the head gasket issue or should I look into other cars that have already had the gasket replaced?

Thanks a ton!

There is a head gasket topic on here. I believe you will find the info you need to make the assessment. I am also in the same process of buying a used outback.

Just keep in mind, a head gasket job, it should be done on both sides, average cost from independent subaru shops is about US$1500. Factor that as a future cost if the head gaskets have not been done.
