I've got a 2000 Outback, the body is in pretty good shape, save for the forward crossmember, which is rusted to the point of needing replacement.

I've got a replacement from the local salvage yard without too much trouble, but after getting it home, I see it's from a Forrester.

Will this be a problem, or is this a common component between the two models?

Actually the Forester is an Impreza platform, so I would assume it is somewhat different. I don't know if the crossmember will work or not though.

go here, look at #6. depending on the year, there are 3 different part numbers. NONE show to fit forester. legacy, outback, and baja only.

if you go here, and put in the part numbers, it will show you all the other models they fit:

tomorrow i am going to pick up 2 knuckles from an 01. car has a bad transmission, 130k. i will ask about the xmbr. guy says he also sells a lot on ebay, and it is not really that big. dunno how heavy. car is in ft worth, texas. not much rust here

update:
i picked up my knuckles and fuel pump today. the guy wants 100 bucks, plus 100 bucks to ship. kinda steep, imho. but a real pita to remove. the engine is out of the car, so not much problem. here is his ad: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/3697789726.html
