Now that there's snow on the ground, I've noticed something that I don't think is 'normal' for a Subaru. I'll pull up to a stop sign on an icy road. When I go to accelerate, the front wheels will spin for about 3 seconds followed by a 'clunk'...that's when the back wheels kick in. Is this a rear diff problem?

is this a manual or a automatic trans.

this maybe a electrical or mechanical problem,

open the fuse box under the hood any see if you see any corrosion

if automatic you can insert a fuse into the FWD (front wheel drive) slot to make it a front drive car and try it again.
