Just get one that plugs into the lighter socket. If funds are tight and they require no time to install..

this one is basic for $7
12 Volt Battery/Alternator Tester

I have seen others with a digital readout but not sure where right now.

I already have a voltmeter gauge (see link.) I just need to install it somewhere. If I needed to test the battery or alternator I could do it with a DMM.

Well here is my temporary solution:







This might get painted if I end up finding a good color match. Its really more of a proof of concept than an actual mount right now.

cardoc modified an Impreza A-pillar mount to work in his supercharged Outback.

you might search for that post.

but your solution should be fine.
