I have a 2002 L.L. Bean Outback with 195,000 miles on it. Yesterday, wife called and said the temp was in the red zone. I told her to wait for me. When I got there, the coolant level was fine and the radiator fans were working. The temp was about 2/3 to the red zone, and there were bubbles in the coolant recovery tank.
Drove home at 55 on the interstate with the heat on hi and the windows down. Ay ideas? I am going to replace the coolant, thermostat and the radiator cap tomorrow.

HG failures are rare for the H6 engine, so here's hoping it's just a tired tstat. Although, if it is original, I would not be disappointed by a 200k water pump starting to fail, or a 200k radiator getting clogged up.
