I've got a 2003 2.5 liter that I will be hauling an 8' cargo trailer to Utah with. I have trailer brakes on trailer and car. I will be overloaded for the US, but pretty close to the max European rating. I have been told the difference is that the Euro models have air springs in the rear and they are required to have trailer brakes.
I have made this trip before with the same load and about 400lbs of cargo in the wagon. It will be cold weather driving and I just don't have another vehicle to do it with, so please no lectures.
Question is, since I am due for some new rear suspension anyway, how can I beef it up to handle the extra load? Side note... I usually have about 200lbs of dog in the back while daily driving. Thanks.
