Hello
2007 outback basic wagon. Main ignition key is worn out and will not open door and has started getting tricky with ignition as well. I am using the valet key as a backup but it has a plastic back loop which will eventually wear out and break...the valet key does not seem designed for everyday use.

What is the best / least expensive way to get a chip key like the one below, with a metal back that does not get worn out? It seems like going to a dealer and paying a gazzillion is one of the options...

Most locksmiths should be able to supply the key, cut the key and clone the chip.

I think you can take the key apart and get the little transponder out of it so that you don't have to get it reprogrammed. Just get a new key cut and transfer the chip.
