My 2008 Outback only has 32,000 miles on it. It has a 5-speed manual transmission, and the last 2 times I tried to drive up a long, steep hill in our town, it would not shift into the higher gears. It went into 2nd and stayed there, with the RPMs in the stratosphere and the engine screaming, as I tried to shift into 3rd, 4th and 5th like normal. It has not done this on level ground nor going downhill, so I don't know if it is a transmission problem, a clutch going out, or what. The dealer is 100 miles away, and I can't leave the car there because they have no loaners, so I've got to try to figure this out myself. Any thoughts?
