I've got a 2009 outback with 75K miles, manual transmission. I have noticed a rather odd rattle sort of a metal on metal rattle immediatley under the vehicle, sounds like it could be transmission related. I notice it mostly when applying the gas or just after i take my foot off the gas. Seems to be worse at lower gears, and is only really noticeable when driving with the windows down.

Has anyone ever encountered this? friends keep telling me its one of the many subaru sounds that subaru's often make, that cost a fortune to fix, but does not cause any real problems. I'm skeptical that it is nothing to worry about and want to get it looked at. However, at 80 dollars just to diagnose, I'd like to know if any one has any clues as to what it could be. thank you much!
