How is the 2.5 engine in terms of reliability?

What CVT is mated to the 2.5 engine for the 2010-2014 models?

Are there any common problems with the engine and the CVT?

Read many discussions but I want to summarize the final answers in this one.

I would stay away from the 2010 - 2012 years with the 2.5. Just waaaaay too many problems and potential risks. Main one being the CVT extended warranty issue. Anything over 100k miles and you'll rolling the dice big time. Subaru Issues Extended Transmission Warranty Program for Certain Vehicles

My 2011 has been one giant expensive regret. At just over 100k it needed head gaskets, torque converter, cat converter, etc.

If you must get an Outback get the 3.6 engine.

So perhaps I will stick to my 2015 Forester.
Really wanted an Outback but I think I will save some more money and then decide what to do.
