Ha! We just our subaru a few days ago. My husband asked me how the mirrors and wipers work. I had no idea. Thanks for posting and the response. :29:

You push the button on the climate control panel that has a picture of which defogger/defroster is on - there are 2 of threm - it would be the one to the right of the front windshield defogger/defroster button. It works in conjunction with the rear window defroster/defogger - when the rear one is on, the side mirror defogger is on as well!

Thats good to know, especially with the 2 feet of snow we got at our house but they were probably working and I didnt even know it because I had the rear defrost on a lot the past couple of days.

And just for information, your Dealer can program the rear defroster so it will remain on any time the switch is pushed on. In cold weather it is a nuisance having it turn itself off after a few minutes! :29:

So the warming of the front wiper also comes on when the rear window defroster activiated? I thought that I read that from some on eposting here that these items were programmed to come on when the temperature got below a certain level.

Rear de-fog heater activates them all (as Todd mentioned). Front heater button activates inside fan that blows hot air on the front windshield - at least that, how it works on my 2013 OB>

Turns off after a few minutes? The rear defroster stays on for about 15 minutes. That's standard on just about every car I've ever seen.

Yup, the wiper deicer is activated with the rear defroster button for models that have the deicer. Keep in mind your ignition has to be set to "ON" for these to work.

Models without the wiper deicer have to rely on the front defrost setting to deice the wipers.

Pages 3-34 and 8-10 in the manual respectively.

will the mirror icon light up when the defrost is on (as the blind-spot warning lights up)?
a service guy told be the light will not go on, but the mirrors will get warm.
I'm not feeling any warmth or seeing the icon light up, so I think my system is faulty.
