Thanks for the notes! I'm following that car with interest.

Gauge test sweep has been selectable on XTs from the beginning (MY05) not sure about other models.

Regarding the dash display- are your sunglasses polarized? Try tilting your head to see if the display brightens and darkens in response to the angle of your head. Lots of automotive LCDs are done right- polarized at a 45° to the horizon, so that polarized sunglasses don't make too much of an impact on brightness. Unfortunately I've been seeing more which aren't designed as well and become unusable with polarized glasses.

"...just don't bounce off the fuel cutoff,.."

Can you explain what you're saying here? I don't understand." Thanks.
If you attempt to over-rev a car by standing on the gas pedal, the engine is usually protected by a rev limit mechanism.

Back in the day, it was a spark cutoff. Cheap & effective, but it was very polluting with clouds of unburnt gas, risk of backfire & catalytic converter damage. So then the automotive world changed to a fuel cutoff system. Now (apparently) Subaru does something different to control high RPMs by changing gear ratios in the CVT.
