Hello to all. This is my first post about my first Subaru. I have the 2.5 and I noticed that the oil filter is right up front and easy to get to when you open the hood, a nice plus. But after the first oil change the area around the oil filter, the part that caches the oil when you unscrew the filer drains back into the engine along with all the sand and dirt that has collected in the little hole that drains it back into the engine.. Whats the best way to clean it ?

soak up what you can with a rag, hose off the traces with a bit of carb cleaner (spraycan) or another rag dipped in some mild solvent or spirit.

Silicone spray also works to spray debris away as rasterman has explained. During each LOF change, I also use the silicone spray on all 4 cv axle boots to keep them soft (while the oil is draining).
