I traded a older Outback Limited for a early build 2015 Outback Limited Outback with eyesight at the end of 2014. It was a big improvement over my older Outback. In time problems did show up on the 2015 Outback. First the cross wind problem which I did live with for quite a while before it was fixed. Next after a wet snowfall (4 inches) I got stuck at a local mall. Did not think the four wheel drive was working properly as only the front wheel were spinning. Did not take much of a push from a stranger to get me going. Had the dealer check the four wheel drive and they said the computer says it was fine. Next noticed that the 4 cylinder engine was getting noisy. Was most noticeable when it was cold. Again dealer said it was normal. Then between oil changes the low oil light would come on. Would have to add a 1/2 quart between oil changes. Again dealer said that was normal. I did like the Outback other than the above problems.

The warranty was due to expire this October. With the above concerns I had with the 2015 Outback it was time to trade. I test drove a Toyota Rav4 and a Honda CRX. Even with the problems I had with the 2015 Outback I did prefer the Outback to either one. I then test drove a six cylinder 2018 Outback Limited. What an improvement over the 2015 Outback. The 2018 is much quieter overall. Not just the engine. With the extra power it more fun to drive. Like the LED headlights and all the electronic improvement. The six cylinder upgrade was a few thousand more but well worth the cost.

People always shop the CRV and RAV4 against the Outback and I can see why but they are not even in the OB class of cars. The Forester is. Also ,I can understand the issues with the early 15. I had a 15 that had a knocking noise from the engine my dealer deemed normal. I try to wait one model year before buying because it seems Subaru can't work all the bugs out in the testing phase although my son has a early build 14 Forester that has been flawless.
