2020 Outback Software GigaThread

I recently purchased a 2020 Outback Onyx, to complement my 2018 Legacy. Love it. However, I’ve identified several software bugs, that I would like to see fixed. Are you seeing the same issues?

1. The mapping software does not provide the cross-street names on its route, regardless of how close I zoom in.
2. The radio sound customization does not retain its settings and defaults back to a natural position.
3. The Auto Start/Stop needs to stay in the position you choose until you change it. The same is true with the Auto Vehicle Hold.
4. Daylight Savings Time is not working.
5. The cell phone volume is a confusing mess.
6. A Bluetooth-connected phone will not sound alerts for new emails, text messages, or any other type of sound alert.

I've read the manual, checked all the settings, and worked with my Subaru specialist and she can't find a way to resolve these issues.

actually, it seems like the iOS folks were having more issues with the random black-outs than the Android folks. I had MAYBE 2 or 3 while it seemed like iOS people had a horrible time.
I haven't been using CarPlay long enough to comment on stability, I was referring more to the UI/UX and design considerations. There are times when using the '20-'22 AA implementation where you're fumbling around through sub-menus and tiny buttons all over the (half ;)) screen because there's no consistency in the design between apps. It's actually a very common problem in the Android ecosystem in general, and I'm not trying to come across as an Android hater. The Pixel phones had been daily driver for 7 years up to a few days ago.

I'm beginning to think that ain't gonna happen. Hope that proves to be wrong.
I think there has been an update already for the 23 MY software. That could have delayed a 20-22 software update.

I have cool walk enabled on my account but it doesn't still show on the car. I'll play with it and see if I can get it working and will post pics if I can get it to work.

Even if you get the right app version Google controls the deployment server dude so unless your account has it enabled server dude, you might not see it, even with the correct app version.
That's correct about server side switch, it just showed up on mine, did not have to do anything. Even though I was in beta program I still had to wiat for them to enable Coolwalk

Or they have ended the update for MY20-22 in favor or working on the new head units. I would think if we don't see any updates this year then they are done with our headunits.

If there are no more updates I’ll be fine because the October 2022 update has been flawless. However, that doesn’t help the AA users, so I’m still expecting at least one more update to give full screen AA.

Everyone else is screaming for seat heaters on the front screen, which would be nice but not mandatory. Subaru’s seat heaters stay in the last position after shutdown and restart, so if you simply leave yours on for the winter you’re fine. We don’t use ours much so it’s not a big deal to use the pop up screen, but I think we’re in the minority.

I got 8.6.6250 today, still no coolwalk.
That is because it has nothing to do with what client version you install. It's 100% dictated on whether or not Google has enabled it for you on their end. You only get it if you are enrolled in the beta or they have rolled it out to your specific device in your specific area.

There is NOTHING any of us can do to get Coolwalk without enrolling in the full beta or just waiting until it just kicks in one day.

It might. Once you have a minimum app version your account could be flagged to have it turned on at some point.

What somewhat 'bugs' me is that the app reaches out to Google servers when it launches and says "hey, which interface is this guy supposed to get?". It should just be in the app...

Nope, not unless you were drastically out of date.

Anyone that knows what Coolwalk is wouldn't be in that boat. Today's nightly beta vs last week's won't flip that switch. Not trying to be combative.

My point is that there is likely a certain app update level required to have the ability to get it, but just having the proper version of the app qualifies you to get the server switch flipped, eventually, but does not mean you have it enabled instantly.

Yes I'm sure there is a min app level required, but lots of people on 8.5 versions have Coolwalk enabled. On the flip side, lots of people with 8.6 and 8.7 still don't have Coolwalk. So as long as you're on 8.5 (and truthfully, probably even earlier builds as well) then we just need to be patient.

And frankly I'm not really looking forward to the 3" map on my 2020 Legacy screen once Coolwalk kicks in for me. Coolwalk will be totally useless until Subaru updates the software to go full screen like the '23. Does this really look useful to anyone??

I've already got full screen android auto, which is why I'm keen to get coolwalk to see what it looks like on the full size portrait screen.

Truly I am happy for you, just jealous!!
I use the ottocast U2-X wireless adaptor, fools the display into thinking its connected to carplay. Not sure if coolwalk will fool android auto into thinking it's connected to a portrait display though, or whether it'll just stretch the landscape AA vertically to fill the display.

Question, I've seen about 15 pictures of that ottocast and EVERY single one has the climate control and info on the top bar completely blank. Is that normal? How the hell do you control the temps in that case? Seems like it gives you some functionality by destroying the entire usability of the car if that's the case.
