Question, I've seen about 15 pictures of that ottocast and EVERY single one has the climate control and info on the top bar completely blank. Is that normal? How the hell do you control the temps in that case? Seems like it gives you some functionality by destroying the entire usability of the car if that's the case.

Good point, but then every picture I've seen of that dongle has had the engine off, because I have never seen an image with the climate control actually on working at the same time.

I can assure you it runs just the same as without the wireless ottocast.

Good good, thanks. I'm considering this one I just swear every image is with the climate off and I was wondering if it does some goofy ass control with the head unit that interferes with other controls. Thanks for the pic

I just ordered the device. Have you noticed anything negative- box disconnecting while driving? What has been your experience?

I was part of the crowd funding development and it took them ages to get it right. About last September I stopped doing updates as it was working well in the car I had then, and it still works well in my 2022 touring. There's been lots of updates since but I haven't updated cos if it ain't broke...... The updates seems to fix issues with particular cars, mostly ones with rotary controls. I have a very occasional issue with having to manually select car audio rather than phone speakers but I think that's an AA issue, and I can do it during the call on the AA screen.

Thanks for the reply. I should have the device tomorrow and will put it through the paces. I've been using the Motorola M1 and it works great. I wanted a little more functionality, especially with kids on board during trips.

Subaru lists known-good USB sticks, but any reliable stick should be fine - fundamentally it uses USB 2.0 speed protocols so no need to get a fancy super duper USB.

The TSB lists several suggested USB sticks, right at the beginning of the document.

Having said that, almost any USB stick of sufficient size and formatted correctly will work.

I already have an AAWireless dongle but I really want that fullscreen interface......toying with the idea of just buying this one. Might help you guys out though because I bet once I buy it the new UI update will come out for Subaru

My issue with all of the dongles is they're running old versions of android. I doubt they'll get updates, so that means they're going to be a security nightmare.

At least the Ottocast being discussed above does get updates (and it appears to be frequently): update u2-x

I do not think they are running android on any of the dongle units. They just run receiver technology and/or mirror casting from your phone (which should be getting updates)

I have both the ottocast and the carlinkit A2A. Sometimes I prefer the small screen from the A2A cos I then get the radio display at the bottom of the screen. I listen to spoken word radio a lot, and change channels quite a bit too. I don't know what coolwalk is gonna look like on either.

Trying to fix my map issue - shows the wrong location

I completed the USB firmware update (followed the video instructions) :

From: F31BHM120-970
To: F31BHM131-480

Update went smooth but my map is still messed up, still shows the wrong location

I went and chekced for a map update and it was available for many provinces/states...etc. I live in Ontario so only updated that one. This also didn't fix my map issue.

any ideas?

I'm going to think whether this is something I'm going to atempt or just report the map issue to the dealer and let them fix it

The dealer reset is easy to do. It just resets ALL your settings.

Watch the intro to get into the dealership mode. Skip to 7:52 for the Settings - > Memory inititialization
