I have attempted all of the low hanging fruit solutions, with the built in switches, etc. I have not been able to find the solution to easily and conveniently have my map reading light turn off while I have the rear gate open. Am I the only one here that has not been able to find the fix? I appreciate any feedback you can provide me with.

Thanks

Does the carabiner trick work on a Gen 3?

Gen 5

Or are the lights triggered from a pin switch, in which case you just need to rig up a way to hold the pin in the closed position.

Yes.

In regard to the rear gate, the lighting is turned on by a switch in the latch mechanism. This also turns on the ceiling lights if they're set to "Door". The caribiner should work; I use the same technique whenever I'm leaving the gate open.
